GA: Atlanta/Athens 4G LTE - Official Thread

Nice. I have Comcast WiFi too. What router are you using?

I have the Comcast supplied modem and a Linksys WRT54G router.
If anyone has a cable modem they are not using, let me know.
I don't want to pay Comcast $7.00 a month for theirs.

I recall seeing cable modems in Best Buy. I too have apparently been paying the cable company $7 a month for years when I should have owned one. Hmmm.

Hey TraderGary, Im in the Snellville-Loganville area. Is the EVO 4G LTE worth getting or would you recommend the GS3 over it?

Both use the same processor so they have the same speed. I chose the EVO because I prefer the color accuracy, brightness and sharpness of the IPS screen. The IPS screen can be used in full sunlight. The camera rivals my best P&S which I no longer carry.

I'm an Evo fan.... I was just questioning that sealed battery. Not a big fan of that...I feel like if that battery ever has an issue I'll have to replace my entire device instead of just swapping the battery.

I did not find any LTE in Athens today.
Oh well. Just gotta be patient.

The EVO battery is replaceable at any Sprint store that has repair service. My battery easily lasts a full day with heavy phone and internet usage, usually with more than 50% left. There is absolutely no comparison to the old EVO battery. This one easily lasts more than 4 times as long.

Speaking of batteries, I just ordered the new bundle that Sprint has for the Galaxy Nexus.
Extended 2100 mAh battery and rear door.
Best part is that it was FREE!!!
So I ordered two. :)

Thought I'd check out LTE in Athens. Here I am having a spicy chicken sandwich at the Athens Chick-Fil-A on hwy 78.

Looks like Athens is lit up with LTE. Here I am in the middle of downtown at Jittery Joes.

LTE was solid driving all the way from the city limit to the center of town.

Cool. I spent most of my time there on the East side over the weekend so I guess I missed it.

I have a White Galaxy S3.
Unfortunately I am extremely disappointed in the spotty LTE service provided by sprint and in addition the painfully slow 3G speed in its absence. Combine that with the most dropped calls I've had in comparison to any other network I've ever used: Verizon, MetroPCS, and even boost (even though they are SPRINT! Prior to LTE launch though).

Anyway, my question is about North Atlanta coverage. I live in Marietta and work in Norcross so for my commute I take 75 south to 285 east to 85 north. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO 4G LTE ANYWHERE ALONG THIS ROUTE.
Now I?ve updated just about anything shy of my network! I?ve called sprint enough times and tried to explain the situation but sadly when the agent who is supposed to know their own technology refer to ?LTE? as ?4G LITE? (I?m not kidding) you know they are not going to be helpful.
So here I am, paying for service that I should be getting but not getting it. If I knew this I?d have gone with T-Mobile. My colleague has the S3 with them and is very satisfied.

Any comments or suggestions anyone?

Until the 4G coverage is better, it can be difficult to get and hold a signal while moving/driving.
I have found great big pools of LTE in sections of the Metro area but only when standing in one spot to allow the phone to grab a signal.
A few posts above I noted 4G in Norcross at Indian Trail @ I-85 but I have none at my work on Atlantic Blvd. Very spotty.
Hang loose as Sprint is activating more and more towers every week.

As of this moment, my phone is not connecting to the internet/3G, etc.
Same on the wife's phone.
Texts and phone calls are coming in and going out OK.
Is anyone else in the Metro ATL having this problem?

May be a Network snafu.

Thanks.
