I spent an hour with Metro customer service/tech support to no avail, trying to solve the 'no text' trouble. I can create texts but when I send them it tells me "we will send your message when the service is available" then it just sits there doing nothing.
Yesterday I did a hard reset and started over thinking that would do it, it did not.

fwiw wife's phone is identical to mine, on the same service and is working fine.

This problem appears on WI-fi or the Metro connection. Tech support said that my connection was being 'provisioned' ( HUH?) and it would work in 2 hours... lo and behold it did send me 12 texts, that were delayed somehow but after that the same trouble was back, that's when I did the reset.

Thanks to all

Well similar to what I have, in most respects. Odd thing is the device is supposed to be 4G, but it only shows me 2G/3G as choices.. wife's phone show the same. Ads I see bill the phone as 4G.

Another call to tech support had them somehow,'reset the network connection' I can send and get texts now, but the 2G/3G mystifies me.

Thanks to you both :D

Glad the messages got resolved, is your sim old?

Was this Galaxy A01 purchased directly from Metro, or did you bring it from another carrier? What's the exact model number of the phone in (in Settings>About Phone)?

Is there a Preferred Network Type option in the system settings that allows you to choose 4G over 2G/3G?

The ones that came with the phone are what we are using. Doubt that Metro would hand me 2 new ones. Seems that most of the
employees are pissy to deal with in person, dunno how they stay in business imho. Ones you get tech support have been great.

Obviously I'd have never thought to question the SIM age!

Yes but it only shows it as 2G/3G or each one separately, NO 4G choice at all

A015M/DS (mine) If I remember I got in online from Ebay I had a sim from a core prime and I think i used that one but maybe not.

NB: When it was setting it up I thought it was odd that the Microsoft app name was in Spanish, all the rest English.

Wife's phone came from Metro with new sim .... but hers doesn't show 4G either.

Cheers,

Well 'similar' could be a part of the problem you're having. The thing is with APN settings just one typo or character difference can screw up your phone's cellular connectivity. So at least try making a new APN entry and follow those exact settings as is, and then see if that solves your problem. Create a new APN entry, don't edit the existing one(s). That way you can always re-select the original one when you need to. Don't add your own space characters or anything, type it in exactly as indicated. Then select your newly created APN entry, and reboot your phone just to make sure it gets loaded into memory during the boot up process. Check to make sure it's still selected and do a couple of text messaging tests to see if there's a difference.

smvim Before I hose the phone....please tell me I am using the APN settings for the USA on page : https://www.apnsettingsandroid.com/2022/05/sti-mobile-apn-settings-for-android.html

There are many that say Not Set ... take that literally and just let it go ' not set" ? And where does the original file go when I SAVE IT? IE: Where would I go to choose it again if this bricks the phone? Give what the earlier poster said the phone being for Latin America.. it my not even be capable of the 4G. Just don't want to kill the patient ;) with a 'successful operation' lol

Lots of questions, sorry for that. Trying not to make a mess.. I di install another messaging app that seem to be working fine. I know that has nothing to do with the 4G issue but i mention it anyway+.

Cheers

APN only relates to cellular connectivity. That's it, just cellular. Not WiFi, nor Bluetooth, nor anything else. You can't 'hose' your phone, it doesn't have anything at all to do with how the Android operating system on your phone functions, just cellular. If you make a mistake when creating your own APN entry, that won't affect anything else. And you can always just select the APN entry you were using previously.

Go to web site of your carrier, they all have a page that shows their specific APN settings. Generally when you initially insert the SIM card from your carrier, part of the setup process your phone does is automatically add in the appropriate APN entry. But occasionally that doesn't work out properly so it's up to the user to make their own APN entry.

Thanks a lot sorry for delay in replying to you.

Today the phone started acting up.. IE now I can gets texts but can't call out except to my wife's phone! Oh yes I can't get calls either! the APN I tried to to make ended up a failure so I had to revert to the default one in thet phone. Right now I need to get away from it before I toss it out.

fwia it's been OK until today, today it's been pretty miserable to deal with didn't seem to make any difference to using WIFI or regular Metro PCS at times neither worked <sigh>

thanks to all........ I need a Blue Moon.

Can someone tell me what the CIRCLE Icon with the slash mark means, in my status bar? Seems like nothing I can do will make it go off. It's not related to the volume setting as I have read It isn't airplane mode or do not interrupt...

Seems like my inability to do anything with the phone, started when this icon appears . Metro doesn't know either. I thought maybe the3 /4G network was taken off line here, for 5G. It isn't airplane mode or don't bother me // interrupt me.

Remember this phone is a " Latin American" version of the A01. It was sold to me as a 4G but it never shows 4G in connections, neither does my wife's A01.

FWIW all settings in my APN match EXACTLY those in the other A01 we have.

HELP I am phone-less, but plan to hard reset as a last ditch effort!! Been holding out for some suggestions in here.

That means no signal. Have you tried a new SIM? Those are given free of charge if you visit a carrier store. That's what I did when I had no signal on a Verizon phone years ago. Stop in a Metro store and ask for a new SIM.

Laura & Mustag

B Diddy et al , thanks I will try to get a new SIM I will be amazed if they GIVE me anything but a hard time <sigh>

I always thought the number of bars was strength of signal to the device.

In my case, I have all the bars with the circle too .... go figure. I'd send a screenshot of it but my Linux isn't reading the phone right now

Will try a SIM.
