GALAXY NEXUS: Ecco i benchmark

I've been wavering and back and forth between the Nexus and the Vigor/Rezound. Was heavily leaning toward the Nexus for the last few days because of ICS and native use of dual core. On the other hand, the Vigor/Rezound should have an ICS dev rom before long.

Then we have the fact that most devs seem to me moving to the Nexus also and that throws me back into the Nexus camp. But those specs listed above on those benchmarks, if true, are just massively underwhelming!

Guess I'll be still thinking about this, and probably going back and forth right up to the last minute.

Is anyone else afraid that this phone is going to be too big? Might as well put an iPad in my pocket. I'd think 4.3 or 4.5" would have been plenty. I was hoping the screen would have been more edge to edge to make the case size smaller. 13.6cm long is huge!

It isn't much bigger than the Charge is... The only difference is the height. Width is the same, according to those specs (136x68)

Well from jcase (reputable developer). I would take those benchmarks as not final. I'll reserve judgment until an official version is out and actually bench marked properly.

Ignore those Galaxy Nexus benchmarks, they were from a gimped firmware.

in this VZ doc it shows some supposed release dates.

My question is look at the droid spyder/Razr is called the Droid HD. Probably the codename. So if they have the codename for the razr/spyder, maybe the galaxy Nexus is the code name for the prime? Just a thought.

Well, coming from my Fascinate its 1.5cm longer. Only a little bit wider. Just seems like phones are maybe getting a little too large. The thinness will be nice. Like I said though - I was hoping for less hardware overhang at the top and bottom to make the case more efficient. Put those Verizon and Samsung logos somewhere else. :p

If I'm following that site's logic, the "benchmark" compares the GN's 3D performance (via Open GL) to that of other phones (one is the SGS2):

ESCLUSIVA: Confronto Benchmark Galaxy Nexus Vs Galaxy SII Vs EVO3D Vs Optimus 3D

As the resolution of the GN is significantly higher, wouldn't we expect the 3D graphical performance to be significantly less than the phones with lower resolution?

I suppose that I don't understand the value of benchmarking performance when the phones aren't apple-to-apple (no pun intended) comparisons...

really cheap hardware compared to other phones.

Ok dude. I'm usually a pretty lighthearted fellow. If you read my posts here I typically make jokes and try to help out new folks when I can. I've tried to ignore your negativity for long enough, however.

You need to find somewhere else to spend your time instead of ruining every other poster's enjoyment of this forum with your incessant negativity. Go have fun over at Phandroid and don't look back.

Ignore me if you are not happy that I'm saying truth about your new toy :)
It's incredible how adults behave when you talk bad about their new toy :)

I'm not saying that this phone is a bad phone, I don't know it but from the data we have it is surely a cheap phone with cheap hardware.

According to the GLBenchmark site, the v2.1 benchmark results are apples-to-apples:

Code:
GLBenchmark 2.1, updated to measure the latest performance improvements in OpenGL ES 2.0

GLBenchmark 2.1 is an upgrade to our popular GLBenchmark 2.0.x series OpenGL ES 2.0 benchmarks. Using the same content it provides more scalable test environment, compatible with the widest range of performance profiles.

Major new features
Off-screen measurements: all high-level scenes are also rendered off-screen, with the same 1280x720 pixel resolution on all devices. This method provides apples-to-apples performance comparison for the embedded GPUs.
Warm-up style throughput tests: fill-rate and triangle tests are run in loops of continuously increased complexities to reach the performance limits of all platforms.
High quality rendering: all tests with "High" quality settings require multi-sample anti-aliasing and at least 24 bits ofcolor- and Z-buffer depths.

IF this benchmark holds up, the 3D performance is not stellar on the GN... but I wonder how many 3D features are actually used in a phone these days. I mean outside of games.

it uses the same GPU used in Nexus S :D

amazing how 3D is slower due to the bigger display resolution.

Surely the UI will be faster due to software optimizations but 3D graphics and games will be slower than Nexus S.
This is a fact, not an opinion since they have the same GPU on different resolution, I'm saying facts, if this is trolling I don't have clear what "trolling" means :D

I have no problem with people discussing the shortcomings of this device. It's not the be all and end all of mobile technology.

The problem is that you are not offering any constructive information. You're just posting the same "ZOMG CH3AP HARDWAREZ" bullcrap over and over again. It's grown tiresome.

as far as I know I'm posting benchmarks

you're ignoring the fact that the 540 in the omap is clocked almost twice as high. as for game performance I have yet to see any games on android that look as good as some of the iphone games that run on the same gpu as the nexus s.

benchmarks speak to potential, not how it will be used. the mali 400 will never see the same level of optimizations that the sgx540 has, because it will not be in anywhere near the number of phones (and as much as I hate to admit the reality of the situation it was not and will not be in an iphone)

Google chose this gpu for the benefit of developers, this gpu powered the iphone 4 and is in more handsets than any other gpu. Using the same gpu in the nexus line makes it easier for iphone devs to move to android (and lets face it there are more and better devs in apple's ecosystem because currently thats where the money is). making it easier for devs to switch will improve the quality of applications on android.

Trolls feed off of anger, there a very odd species. Your better off leaving him be.

Here you go
Trolling - Do not post inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages to provoke users into responding in a negative way.

Your kinda trolling because your making the same point over and over again in this forum. There is no rule on stating you opinion or facts but no need to state it more then once. You have made your point please move on to a new topic.

Thanks
Larry
