Galaxy Nexus Randomly shutting down?

+1 for me. This has only happened once since I got the phone yesterday morning. The phone was sitting next to me as I watching TV and then I noticed the boot up animation. Very weird. HSPA version

I've been able to consistently reproduce the uninitiated restart: The phone restarts whenever I have the "music" app playing in the background while "wordfeud" is up. I've read all the posts up until now and it seems the "music" app is a common culprit. Hopefully this can help someone diagnose the problem.

It is the music app for sure. I am returning the Galaxy Nexus for now in hopes of this issue is fixed. I was able to produce this issue with all other apps closed and having just Google Music up.

I was having this random reboots every so often problem, then all of a sudden, my phone rebooted and won't fully start up, it's just constantly in the booting animation. This hurts to see my shiny new nexus messed up like this. It's completely stock too so I have no idea how this could've happened or what to do about it

My Gnex Has turned off once, while I was on the phone and using Navigation. But I have had that problem continuously with all my Android phones...Droid X and X2s...and multiple replacement phones of each. I'm kind of used to it now. Honestly, it's just one of those issues that I have come to accept with all my electronics. Even my iPad does it, too, on occasion.

Whenever I select "all mailboxes" in email it shuts down. Also shuts down when I open an excel spreadsheet. Ive also had a few random shutdowns elsewhere as well.

Same here! My nexus just randomly shuts down and restarts back to the whole google screen and everything. This has happened everyday since I bought it and today it happened when I checked my email (my schools email through the browser because I am having trouble registering it on the device) and when I opened an excel spreadsheet it restarted! I'm getting frustrated with this phone...

You should return it if you are having issues. I got my first GNex on Thursday and am now on my 3rd one...but this one is good so far. I'll return stuff until I'm happy.

I have caught my Nexus rebooting 5 occasions in the last week and there is absolutely no factor I can see about what it was doing just before it. It is not updates, or any app, and it did it twice while the "sleep" function was going with no apps in the recently used area. It is not a problem, well, one of those times it rebooted 4 times continuously all by itself and then came up normal. It is not rooted, only a few apps have been added, no screensaver apps but a weather app is on it. I wondered if it was "SeekDroid" which I loaded but have not configured yet? I am getting great battery life and have no complaints about the phone, but wanted to mention in this thread that mine reboots as well.

Oh, and from day one I have had it set not to automatically update anything, not the apps or OS or Google+ so it is not like it needs to reset to let a running app restart.

I'd been monitoring it a bit closer for the last few days. It seems to be related not to any specific app but to network or IO utilization. When trying for example to open an app while it is syncing in a background or is being updated with a large dataset upon launch. Just a best guess.

I am returning mine today. I have contacted Negri and requested an RMA number. I have been dealing with an average of 2-3 reboots a day. I dont want to constantly request replacements so I am asking for a refund and will check out the Galaxy Nexus at a later time.

Wow guys, I'm sorry to hear you're having what sounds like an extremely irritating issue with the Gnex. I've had the phone for a week (CDMA version) and haven't had this happen once. I just want everyone to be happy!:'(

Good luck with that! :D

OK, so, I think I may have cracked the who random reboot.

My GNex was rebooting itself like 2-10 times a day. I've tried with the original Samsung image and now the generic 4.0.2 from Google. Always the same.

Yesterday I factory reset the device, but, in stead of restoring apps from Google backup (default option) I manually reinstalled every app and configured it manually.

Long story short, after I configured all the apps form scratch, the phone has not shut down itself even once, yet! Hope this is some ICS incompatibility with my previous settings from Nexus One.

Give it a shot, it just may do the trick.

I did the same and factory reset two times. After the second time I did not load up any apps at all on the phone and let it run for a day and a half. Still reboot 3 times.

Are you on the generic 4.0.2 from Google? I flashed mine the same time I unlocked it. This is second day now and still not a single reboot. Even in apps that consistently crashed my phone before (LinkedIn).

BTW, made a few purchases on the Google Wallet now, love that thing, Wish they supported more cards though. Based on my previous experience Citi is like the poster child for everything that is wrong with the banking system today.

It only happened once to my GNex and I should blame it on multi-tasking. I had too many apps running at the same time and I believe it overwhelmed the phone and just rebooted. Since that incident, there has been no shut downs for me.

Mine has done it at least 5 times in the last few days and the only constants are that I'm using the navigation app, it's plugged in to a car charger and gps is enabled. It's only done it while navigating. The wierd thing is when it comes back on when I check the battery monitor there is a jump in the ammount of battery left. Yesterday it went from 20% to 75%. It then discharged real fast when I unplugged it. After leaving it plugged in overnight its only charged to 98% and dischrging quickly even though this is a new extended life battery.

I was just reading this message and my phone rebooted. Talk about timing. That's the second random reboot since I picked up my device about a week ago.

Yes, I was 4.0.2. I got it on the 2nd day.
