Galaxy Nexus Randomly shutting down?

Its becomming more of a frequent problem for me too. Happened 3 times this week alone. Normally when either browsing the web or in handcent typing a text. Brief pause and then zip.. it shuts off.
Really starting to become annoying. Am starting to wonder if this phone has a hardware manufactoring issue rather than it being software.
Not seen this issue reported in the wider press yet... but it should be... Google/Samsung need to get on this..

Is there a thread on the Google Android support site for this issue?

The Nexus S had a similar problem at launch (Random reboots especially during calls) which took a lot of users complaining and an update before it was finally fixed.

I came across this thread while deciding if I should upgrade my Nexus S... perhaps I should wait for a bit? :(

edit:

There is a thread here: http://www.google.co.uk/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=4a51e070d7b1f856&hl=en

The more people who report the issue (preferably with a good description) the more likely it will be sorted :)

Yesterday while working at my desk I glanced over at my VZW GN and observed the boot animation. I had not touched the phone for quite some time. I'm in a low 3G/4G signal area, but I was just a few feet from my wireless router.

This is at least the 4th time for this to happen in the month since I got it. And this random rebooting nonsense is precisely why I refused to get another LG phone in the first place.

It's not to the point of total frustration - YET! I hope it won't come to that.

After 10 returns of the Galaxy Nexus, sadly going back to the iPhone and hope the next Nexus phone isn't as bad as the Galaxy Nexus. I never seen so many errors with one phone. If your lucky not to experience all the software issues with a particular phone, your most likely going to have the hardware issues, such as the screen issues.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue. First noticed the problem during streaming music on Slaker. Thought it may be connectivity related but have used two separte programs to play audiobooks in airplane mode and it still reboots. The other day it restarted while using Google Maps. I hope they get a fix for it soon, Verizon rep wanted me to wipe the phone and then try a replacement. Sounds like that isn't going to get me to far.

I've got the same issue, but mine usually doesn't reboot it just stays off. Nothing like expecting a phone call and it turns out your phone has switched itself off.

I've had a problem with the Nexus turning off in my pocket. Came to the conclusion that it does so when the back of the phone gets bumped after noticing it went off when I placed my phone on a bench in the bathroom. Tested it and confirmed that this is my problem.

Here is the video showing how slight the bump needs to be to shut off the phone.

jardinepatten, I was having the same problem with my phone and i had no clue on what was the problem until I saw your video. I tap my phone with my finger in that spot and it shutted down inmediately so next, i put i little piece of tissue paper in that spot and put the back piece on, tried tapping again but this time it didn't shut down. I'm going to keep using it like before and report back if my "fix" work or not.

Well, that answers my question. I was wondering why my phone seemed to be off twice so far today (first full day of ownership).

I carry it in my front pocket. Is this a design flaw with the thinness and the battery connector?

I've been having the same problem - the phone shuts off by itself while I carry it in my back pocket. Now I've figured out why. I've been able to test this out by tapping on the back of the phone, maybe the area a little lower than what jardinepatten suggests, but it definitely does the trick.

now if anyone could find a fix please let me know!

I noticed that certain apps make the phone shut down as well....I found that the ESPN app constantly made my nexus shutdown...had it shutdown 6 times in 2 hours..uninstalled it and hasn't happened since...
