Galaxy Nexus to the iPhone 5

All I know is the iPhone will get its updates on time regardless of Verizon and won't have all that bloat ware crap. I have a gnex on Verizon now but still no jelly bean and they are now getting it in Canada.......... I may switch to iPhone for no bloat ware and updates. Idk or I may wait to see the next nexus.

Isn't the point of the nexus that it doesn't have bloatware? That's one of the things I love about it. I gave up on waiting for Verizon to give me JB and went and got it myself. Its been so long now that I forgot everyone else didn't have it.

Welcome to last year Apple :-).

All the features they have minus the 8MP camera, the Galaxy Nexus already has. Unless i'm missing something.

The only thing I was impressed at with this announcement was the new ipod nano's. That's it.

Except iphones processor is better the graphics processor is better. I'd take the iPhone screen over a gnex at least the LCD over amoled. not the size of the screen. Probably better radios and the new microphone system seems pretty good. Its nothing special really just little upgrades. Same thing android is doing nothing spectacular has come out for a while on android at least to me nothing has

There is bloatware on the gnex.......

That's why u get the unlocked one from Google. No worrying about carrier bloat ware and when u are getting updates

All this iPhone bashing. If it gets good reception and can complete more than half of the phone calls it makes then I may get one. My Nexus can do neither of these and I'm on my third.

I went from a Droid to a DroidX to this. The phones keep getting worse. The Droid was a great alternative to the iPhone but I had two different ones with faulty keyboards and every update made the phone worse, plus the updates were slow. I get into rooting and roming with it and then my Droid X. All is great if you can find a stable Rom and want to go through a bunch of hassle to have a decent phone (i.e. strip all of the BS off) The DroidX HW buttons got gummed up but both it and the Droid got great cell service. I always had my eye on Nexus' and when the Prime was leaked I was excited. Then when there was a huge delay I became worried. They finally announced and released it and I was super pumped. Snatched the phone up and it mic muted my first call. Nothing but problems and slow updates since.

The HW design is beautiful, screen is awesome, ICS is sweet. But I get shish for reception and can't make phone calls. Those are pretty important features.

You can bash the iPhone but it will still work better than 99% of the Android phones out there.

The iPhone is good but it's not ?better" than the GS3. It's better than the cheaper, low end models for sure. But it's not blowing away the high-end models at all. If my GS3 was garbage I would say it. But it works. And it works very well. No issues so far. Having bought the iPhone and using it for a couple years I can list the cons. I could list how Safari will crash almost every single time with iOS5 when you try and do something. Something I end up giving up trying and just use my Galaxy S3 because I am tired of it constantly crashing. I like both so I buy and use both. But I know first hand the cons of the iPhone.

I think that it is ridiculous to buy a phone that is bursting at the seams with bloatware from the carrier/manufacturer/third parties to the point that you have to wait for some hacker to break into the device, get around the encrypted boot loader and put some Rom that who knows who made. These Roms by the way are in various states of functionality and really only tech people would even dream of doing this to their phones. So most Android users are left with these unusable phones that they got for their job, were talked into buying and are stuck with them for 2 years. Android phones might have quad core processors and 2gb of Ram but there is so much junk that you can't enjoy it. My Dad's Bionic is so hobbled by junk that it can barely be used. Most people that defend Android are hackers and devs. Everyone else that has one was either talked into it by a Carrier sales rep (seen it happen) or just wanted a bigger screen.

LOL. What's BS. The latest Android devices with Ice Cream Sandwich allow so many things to be disabled if you wish. Even if you don't disable any of it though the device is not going to be hobbled and crippled. If it is you would have to be Dumb A#$ to not only purchase it but keep it pass the return date.

No, the latest iPhone will have a more powerful CPU/GPU (compared to the Galaxy Nexus). No doubt about it.

The only thing I like about Apple is the finish of their product.....other than that nothing new here

Apple DOES make nice products, there is no denying it. I still use my iPod touch in the car to listen to music when I want to hear something specific, and am still thinking of getting an iPad soon for the media consumption/production aspect. The iPad, to me, has set the standard for tablets. And this coming from someone who owns and loves the Nexus 7 tablet.

However...

I enjoy customizing my phone, and taking advantage of what developers do with the open source OS, providing a custom ROM experience if/when I want to do so. Add to that standard features like NFC, widgets, larger screens, multiple choices for keyboards, lockscreens, launchers, etc. I could never be happy with an iPhone as the device I carry with me everywhere. The iPhone 5 is a very nice piece of hardware, but the OS is boring, even when jailbroken, although it is very smooth and stable. I would argue with ICS and JB, Android has caught up in those categories, so it's no longer a differentiator, IMO. If folks like Apple products and their ecosystem, and don't care about customization of your phone, then the iPhone is a great device. But nothing about it is innovative or even exciting, to me.

One thing I would add is although the OS usually is stable that all changes when you jailbreak it and add tweaks/jailbreak apps. Every single iPhone I have owned started crashing after adding tweaks/applications.

Probably because you keep making stupid decisions. The Nexus is great for rooting and flashing roms. But everyone knows that TONS of people have signal issues. I have a Razr Maxx and I guarantee you the iPhone doesn't do a better job of making phone calls. Also, pretty sure you're full of shiz saying the Nexus can't make half of the attempted phone calls. Unless you live on the continental divide and even then, part of it is your service provider.

Also, how does the iPhone work better than 99% of all Android phones out there? You've seriously compared every Android phone to the iPhone? People like you are the exact reason I get sick of the pompous conceited Apple disciples that spit crap and never use legit FACT. Makes sense you want the iPhone, because that is ideal for those who can't think.

You obviously have never paid an ounce of attention. Apple updates their phones alright. The problem? YOU DON'T GET ALL THE SAME FEATURES!!!! The iPhone 3Gs and 4s will get iOS6 and guess what? IT wont be capable of running Apple's new maps. So yeah....they update their phones and that's great. Except that they really don't update their phones at all. I would rather wait a long time and get all the features of ICS or JB then to get it the week after it's announced and not be able to use my camera, Google Now, or the drop down notification bar.

Do some freaking research Apple fans! Take half a second to look into things before you put on the blinders and stumble in line behind everyone else!

I disagree 100%.
.All of my android phones have fuctioned great for me.I have had 4 different models of android phones and not one of them had any defects, zero issues.
After having an android phone with all the options you have to either stay stock ,customize, unlock, root, flash roms , flash kernels, basically make it your phone .The options are as far as you want to take them or to stay totally stock and just change up launcher ,etc. its up to the users of the phone for the most part.Apple is far to restrictive .
There are may be some exceptions if it's a company phone depending on how strict the company is.

As for me personally I would never ever purchase an iphone it would just bore me.There are a couple co-workers here that have the iphone I am very familar with them and there just is no WoW factor to them in my opinion.

Another reminder to please keep it civil and mature here guys. We can have discussions without anyone getting offended or attacking another person.... right? :)

My view...

The IPhone is a great phone with pros and cons
The Nexus is.... wait for it..... a great phone with pros and cons

anyone who states that either is 100% perfect or 100% crap needs to get honest or stop posting....

no offense, just my opinion...

Here is how I see iPhone users:

The Humanitarian in me; see them and thinks; gosh, isn?t it great we are all getting along. You have your phone and I have mine..! Alright, choices?!

The Parent in me; says, ok, I understand, you are a busy parent, and you?re not techie and you don?t have time to spend learning something you think is complicated; and yup you got more important things to worry about in life?

The Academic in me; say, ok ? I know you are not dumb or below average in intelligence ? I can converse with you just fine. You might even be smarter than me, had better grades, have more degrees; and make more money; so why on Earth are you using that kid?s toy??

The Business Professional; says ok ? just as long as we can still conduct business we are cool, you can snap a decent picture and we can talk on the phone and send email to each other, I have no problems with you. But just you know; if we start having technical issues, I?m not going to hand-hold you. You either keep up or get left behind.

The Techie in me; says how can you guys use that thing..? Sure it looks great; win for: eye candy..! But seriously, are you kidding? Are we still in 2nd grade??

The Financial Planner; says, you are getting raped in the A$$ by Apple?!! Have a nice day?

This.

I've played with my step-daughter's iPod touch (and my Mom's iPod touch), and a few minutes here and there with Wifey's iP4s. Are they bad? no, not at all. In fact some days I'm a little jealous of the smaller size of the iP4s -- sometimes I feel the Gnex is a bit too much and wish I had something a bit easier to stuff in a pocket.

BUT... I have issues with the closed ecosystem of Apple. If you want to buy into it and spend the money -- by all means. It all works, and when you have a desktop, laptop, portable media device, TV device, and they're all designed from the ground up to run together off that same closed off system, it's pretty cool. Its not what I want, and lord knows Apple tends to be overpriced.... So I'd rather spend less money on an OPEN ecosystem then more money (that I couldn't justify spending) on a closed system. Not that it's bad-- just not for me

A very good comparison of the two systems on which should be what you use. Does not really make iOS better than android or visa versa. It's what kind of system you want to live in is what makes it better for YOU the individual.

I got my galaxy nexus as a free replacement recently, so I was thinking maybe I'd get the new iphone when it came out, but the lack of NFC and that new dock connector are big bummers. $29 bucks for an adaptor that makes all my accessories (especially speaker dock) look ridiculous? No thanks. Plus it's a USB 2.0 connector....so why not micro usb?
