Galaxy Nexus to the iPhone 5

One thing I really like about the Iphone.. reversible dock connector... this Micro USB can be tough in the dark sometimes

Probably because you keep making stupid decisions. The Nexus is great for rooting and flashing roms. But everyone knows that TONS of people have signal issues. I have a Razr Maxx and I guarantee you the iPhone doesn't do a better job of making phone calls. Also, pretty sure you're full of shiz saying the Nexus can't make half of the attempted phone calls. Unless you live on the continental divide and even then, part of it is your service provider.

Also, how does the iPhone work better than 99% of all Android phones out there? You've seriously compared every Android phone to the iPhone? People like you are the exact reason I get sick of the pompous conceited Apple disciples that spit crap and never use legit FACT. Makes sense you want the iPhone, because that is ideal for those who can't think.

You obviously have never paid an ounce of attention. Apple updates their phones alright. The problem? YOU DON'T GET ALL THE SAME FEATURES!!!! The iPhone 3Gs and 4s will get iOS6 and guess what? IT wont be capable of running Apple's new maps. So yeah....they update their phones and that's great. Except that they really don't update their phones at all. I would rather wait a long time and get all the features of ICS or JB then to get it the week after it's announced and not be able to use my camera, Google Now, or the drop down notification bar.

Do some freaking research Apple fans! Take half a second to look into things before you put on the blinders and stumble in line behind everyone else!

I'm not an apple fan and the 4s will get all the features numb nuts but the 4 and 3gs won't. And I own an Android phone just want jelly bean on my nexus already OTA style

If I had my way I'd rather be on the true GSM Google Galaxy Nexus rather than the Verizon phone for a variety of reasons.

Backup Assistant and MyVerizon should never have been put on the phone... it violates the principle of being free of carrier loaded bloat! but I think its a little extreme to say the phone is really bloated because of them... You CAN disable them although they do still take up some of your disk space... and seeing as the Verizon phone has a 32gb hard drive vs. the 16 GB on the true Google Galaxy Nexus... well.. I haven't done the math yet but there is a good possibility that even with the space that those apps take the GSM phone won't necessarily have more disk space ;-)

I wasn't going to get the new iphone, but after hearing all you guys about it, I'm going to purchase one. Something tells me that most people that are complaining would be on the other side of the coin if Samsung was the goliath and apple was the little guy. The thing about it is, Samsung wants to be as close to what Apple as they can. The CEO admitted it. He wants just as many isheep. And you know what, you're giving it to him. I'm very happy being neutral and seeing the good in all things. My HOX is amazing. My Nexus was awesome, my nexus 7 is currently awesome, my Nexus One was great, but jesus hearing people about each side is really getting to me. I come to the forums to read mostly, I love hearing about hacks and mods etc. but when I keep seeing threads like this it really annoys me. You sound like a bunch of extremists. I'm stoked in getting the new Iphone, the production quality and customer service from apple is incomparable in my opinion. I'll still play with my HOX and my Nexus. But at the end of the day. I'm a fan of technology. not some extremist fan boy in either direction.

2 apps are hardly bloat, and they are easily disabled. And Verizon absolutely had a need and a right to want those 2 simple apps on any phone they are selling on their network. If they weren't on there, VZW has to deal with thousands of hours and dollars in unneeded tech support calls from people who got the phone and rely on backup assistant for their contacts and wouldn't know what to do, and a ton of customers use Myverizon to track their usage and stuff. The first Nexus sold by a carrier here was the Nexus S 4G on Sprint and it came with Sprint's version of those apps as well. If people didn't know how to get their contacts over to the device they weren't going to call Google, they would call the carrier. So much simpler to just have those 2 minimal apps on there than deal with that stress.

So what's your argument? Almost every single Android phone gets updated to the next OS. You said that iPhone gets updates and Android doesn't, so naturally I assumed you were smart enough to not claim that the 4 and 3Gs would not get updates. Therefore I pointed out your weak claim by saying what Apple said, and that's that the previous iPhone models wont get all the features. That means they are NO better than Android in updating. In fact, I still think Android does a better job because if you do get updated, you get ALL the new features as opposed to Apple leaving the 'cool' stuff out.

Don't try to debate both sides of the coin. You have to choose one side and go with it, or everyone see's your trashy claims have no foundation. You can't claim that Apple is the best at updating, but then admit that they wont update the 4 with all the features of iOS 6.

I agree. We've had all the other features of the iP5 for almost a year. But the reversal connector is actually a cool idea. The only new one I can see from the announcement.

I bet the iP5 doesn't even have a barometer yet.

Wait... now didn't Samsung state they would sue apple if they integrated LTE in their phone? Incoming new lawsuit.......

as much as I hate Apple with all the lawsuits,
Samsung has no chance of winning by suing
Apple over the LTE issue.

we can argue until our faces turn blue, but
millions of people will still buy the new iPhone 5.
(probably 80 million by Christmas, which is
less than 3 months away)

All this iPhone bashing. If it gets good reception and can complete more than half of the phone calls it makes then I may get one. My Nexus can do neither of these and I'm on my third.

I went from a Droid to a DroidX to this. The phones keep getting worse. The Droid was a great alternative to the iPhone but I had two different ones with faulty keyboards and every update made the phone worse, plus the updates were slow. I get into rooting and roming with it and then my Droid X. All is great if you can find a stable Rom and want to go through a bunch of hassle to have a decent phone (i.e. strip all of the BS off) The DroidX HW buttons got gummed up but both it and the Droid got great cell service. I always had my eye on Nexus' and when the Prime was leaked I was excited. Then when there was a huge delay I became worried. They finally announced and released it and I was super pumped. Snatched the phone up and it mic muted my first call. Nothing but problems and slow updates since.

The HW design is beautiful, screen is awesome, ICS is sweet. But I get shish for reception and can't make phone calls. Those are pretty important features.

You can bash the iPhone but it will still work better than 99% of the Android phones out there.

If you wanted great call reception the Samsung was not the way to go. Razr Maxx was the way to go.

I'm sure the iphone 5 will be a solid phone and I'm confident LTE alone will make the flock happy. I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find a truly unbiased review not placing the SGS3 > iPhone 5 in terms of hardware (NOT build quality...give it where it's due). Of course, that's comparing just the devices and not the ecosystem, community, etc. That said, I found myself yawning at the release of and using the SGS3 so the iphone 5 is only more yawn. MY super gnex and I are not the least bit envious after all these months:cool: The "wow factors" are lacking in resent releases in my opinion. At least nothing my gnex can't have or won't do. So far I really think this will be the first phone to happily carry me through my 2 year contract. Especially with the dev backing, keeps it cutting edge. Software > hardware. Opinions are like...

I think that it is ridiculous to buy a phone that is bursting at the seams with bloatware from the carrier/manufacturer/third parties to the point that you have to wait for some hacker to break into the device, get around the encrypted boot loader and put some Rom that who knows who made. These Roms by the way are in various states of functionality and really only tech people would even dream of doing this to their phones. So most Android users are left with these unusable phones that they got for their job, were talked into buying and are stuck with them for 2 years. Android phones might have quad core processors and 2gb of Ram but there is so much junk that you can't enjoy it. My Dad's Bionic is so hobbled by junk that it can barely be used. Most people that defend Android are hackers and devs. Everyone else that has one was either talked into it by a Carrier sales rep (seen it happen) or just wanted a bigger screen.

Sorry bud but not true. I'm streaming Pandora on a 4G network while replying to a business email and doing an inter-office IM with a coworker and typing out this reply to you. Earlier I pulled up my desktop on my phone using MotoCast and modified the spreadsheet on my way to a meeting. Before that I downloaded a movie using a app I'd rather not specify so that I can stream it to my HDTV tonight while I eat popcorn while I control it using a blue tooth keyboard. I may even have a video chat with my kid when I get home. Oh did I mention that with my 3300mah battery ill use less than 20% of it to do all that. This thing is plenty functional.

Well I don't get service on my 3rd Nexus and can rarely make a complete phone call. So it would be an upgrade for me. It's awesome because I've started looking at other people's phones that are around me and their reception (verizon) is fine. Meanwhile my flagship Google Galaxy Nexus savior phone has no bars and is running down it's battery searching for one. Good times.

Your enthusiasm for the Razr maxx is noted, and rightfully so, its a great device. But it's becoming a bit off-topic for these threads and this forum.. lets keep focused on the discussion, if you please :)

What an odd discussion. The point is that a phone is a personal device and it's a personal decision. There's no point trying to imprint personal decisions on another person.

Whether the new iPhone is faster than a 1 year old GN isn't really the point. The ONLY point that matters is if the particular phone you are using is fast enough for you. Same with all other aspects of the phone. Do you like it or not. My personal opinion is that the boxy look of the iPhone is not something I care for but I know lots of people like it. But I would never argue that you should not choose an iPhone because I don't like the looks of it. That'd be silly.

Why don't we agree that there are different phones for different personalities? Leave it at that.

This is like arguing that Chevy is better than Ford. Sheesh!

I didn't find it off topic at all. I know i'm not a MOD so it isn't my decision, but when someone makes a blanket sweeping comment about all of Android, rBess seemed to be referencing a device that single handedly proved the blanket statement false. Sure he brought it up a few times, but that was to directly reference each individual statement by the previous commenter.

And to those who get offended by other people trying to convince others of their opinions: I don't think anyone here expects the others to agree with them. However, it's fun to debate their side of the ecosystem. For example......I don't expect Apple fans to switch to Android, I just desperately want to hear them give their own reasons that back up their claims. 9 times out of 10 I only hear them regurgitate what they heard someone else say, so their points become super monotonous. I want original opinions. And when they bust out stats like "99% of Android phones" I expect to hear their research of how they were able to test that many phones.

You nailed it. I want cold hard facts about their experience with android. Most of the time they played with a low end phone that didn't match the quality of their iPhone so they think android sucks. Give them a gnex, sgs3, evolte and so on and they will change their opinion

Honestly? The iPhone in general is a great device, and I'm sure the iPhone 5 will continue that trend. However, contrary to what some may believe, it has no overall advantage over other top of the line phones. Sure, it has a nice screen and an OS that even a toddler can use without much difficulty (I still fail to see how that's a major selling point for fully grown, intelligent adults, it's not like the Android interface takes a rocket scientist to figure out...), but it lacks features that are standard on high-end android phones. It's comparable to other phones in many ways as well, but is not head-and-shoulders above them.

Yes, the Galaxy Nexus, just like literally every other device out there (including all iterations of the iPhone...), has some issues, but the issues effect the minority of models. Neither myself nor my girlfriend have seen these issues on our phones. The only calls I've dropped have been in areas that I know have extremely poor reception.
