Galaxy Note 3 - Case & Covers Thread

I took a double crash/hit yesterday with both, my Note 3, and Note 10.1 2014..

I am setting at table in my house, got the Note 10.1 showing a tennis match, and looking at the news on the Note 3... The glitch was, I had my Sony Headphones hooked up to the 10.1 and listening to some Hi Res Audio samples at the same time. Most of the time, I am on bluetooth with the headphones. I hear my dog getting into something downstairs, I jump up, forgetting that I am wired to the 10.1 with the headphones, and the both my Notes take 3 to 4 foot fall to hard linoleum floor, along with my headphones too... :(

However, the good news, both my Notes are inexpensively well protected. Both of them are sporting Tempered Glass protectors. The Note 3 has a bumper case with a kickstand. When not in use, the Note 3 and the bumper case are in a wallet type folding case. The Note 10.1 also has a Tempered Glass screen protector, and long with a $15 double kickstand case..The double kickstand case, first has a hard plastic shell, and then a silicone soft case slips over that..Glad all that stuff was working. Not nar a scratch on either Notes... :)

Is anyone here that is using an S-view type of case left-handed? I want to get one but they are obviously made for right-handed people. I'm wondering if it's too annoying for a lefty. In particular I was thinking that the front cover would be in the way when opened and using the S-Pen with my left hand while holding the phone with my right hand. How stiff is the fold? If I folded the front cover back behind the phone would it fold back completely flat easily or would it be resistant and hard to hold one handed securely like that? Do you think the case would break if I was constantly folding it back all the way like that?

I've been using the Spigen Neo Hybrid case the last couple of weeks. I like it.....

Bought an otterbox commuter, case is nice, not a lot of bulk but I do have a problem.

Well several. The top right corner of the pc was slightly up but I bent the plastic down and it's fitting better. The other is the power button is super sensitive. I don't even have to hit the button but push gently near it and it turns the screen on or off. Anyone else have that issue?

Splurged and tried my first glass screen protector. Wow! Put the Spigen glasTr on. Amazing how nice it makes the phone feel. This is a must do for any touchscreen phone if it's available. Put the Spigen Nano glas Tr on my wife's S5 and it's equally as nice. Only caveat is having a dust free room for the install. But once it's clean and on... wow! You'll be a happy Note 3 owner.

I noticed the corners popped up too when I first got mine. But after a week mine has molded almost flat. No issues with the power button. I wouldn't say it's super sensitive but not hard to push either like the power button was on the S3 commuter.

Couldn't agree more. Went from a plastic shield which I thought was nice to the bodyguardz tempered glass. What a difference! Will never use a plastic shield again

I usually never used screen protectors because I hated the feel but figured with the stylus I should remembering my Palm Pilot days. I got the MIME tempered glass and it's been great.

Just updating to say I went ahead and got an S-View cover and it folds back flat very easily so this has not been an issue for me. Too soon to say if the case will wear out at the fold but my initial impression is positive at least. I do wish there was a hole for the LED indicator. I'm thinking of punching one or drilling one myself but I'm going to use it as is for awhile to see how much I miss it first. I use the S-Pen on the flip cover and the view screen did quickly get scratches on it from the pen that cannot be removed. I did remove the plastic film on either side of the view screen - maybe not everyone does that and I don't know if it would make a difference - I just hate those plastic protectors. I'm not worried about it scratching my phone display because I have a glass screen protector on that. Overall I like it so far. May get a clip to keep it from flipping open when in my bag (it stays closed easily when laying flat) and may drill that LED hole.

Good to hear you the S View is treating you good so far.
I think you should perhaps look at swapping out your Spen tip. I use the view cover regularly for taking notes as well and am not experiencing the scratches on the cover.

Let us know if you do punch a hole through for the LED light. I sometimes miss it as well. I have a Gear watch on usually so it's not as bad without the LED, but it would be convenient to have it. Something so simple, it makes you wonder why Samsung didn't just make a hole from the get go.

Can anyone give some thoughts on the Otterbox Defender? I always buy Otterbox for my Iphones so I'm curious how the case is for the Note 3. It looks pretty good, and I like the screen protectors they have on them already.

I've got one for my 3. Its very nice I thought it would be a lot more bulky but it's not. I always pop the screen protector out. Buttons work great. Any specific question let me know

Just picked up the Zagg Glass screen protector. I really like it. Wish I had gotten this the first time instead of wasting money on the screen protector I originally got.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3... yeah, it's spectacular!

I think that some of you are insane! I just tried the Otterbox Commuter and Defender for the past few days. In my opinion, for the protection that they offer, you have to sacrifice A LOT!! The Commuter is EXTREMELY slick and the bezel protectors are so high up (compared to other cases and even the Defender) that it makes typing very uncomfortable. The Defender on the other hand, is almost too grippy/sticky that it pulls all of the fabric out of your pants pocket (if you keep it in there) when pulling out and makes the already big Note 3 EXTREMELY HEAVY. The Defender is one of the heaviest and bulkiest out there (granted that this Defender is slimmer than normal).

Furthermore, I have tried the OEM, S VIEW COVER for a few days and it is a complete WASTE. It essentially offers no protection. Imagine dropping your device on concrete and watching the front flap open in mid air as your device lands face first! Can you say, 'goner?' Additionally, the features on the S View screen are SO LIMITED (ie cannot respond to texts, lesser quality photos taken than normal and only able to use Samsung Music Player and no other one) that it is just purely a pretty case w no protection or real practicality.

Currently, I'm debating between the Body Glove Fusion Steel TPU case (slim, offers great drop protection and fits well in pocket) and the Speck Candyshell Grip case (the reviews for the case speak for itself).

There has to be a trade off with cases (protection vs astetics vs functionality) and the Otterbox and S View seem to offer only one of the three.

By the way, I believe that Body Glove's Note 3 cases are the sleeper cases in the entire selection. I bought the Fusion Steel one at T Mobile and this thing rocks (slim, protective, classy looking, provides just the right amount of grip, durable and light)
