Galaxy Note 3 - Case & Covers Thread

I bought the Trident Kraken ams case. I think it gives about the same protection as the otterbox defender with the added advantage of the kickstand. I like the style of the Kraken better myself. I know that you can use the otterbox Holster as a kick stand but I don't use the Holster. The Kraken case has a silicone inner case and a hard outer shell. The otterbox defender has a hard inner case and a silicone outer shell. I prefer the silicone inner case as it is less likely to scratch the phone than a hard inner case.

Screen protector isn't great. I will probably punch it out since I am using the mime glass screen protector. One downside though is that you can not use the Wireless charging with the kickstand but it works when the kickstand is removed.

I had the otterbox commuter case before this but wanted a case with a kickstand

I got the green one for $27 but if you want the black one out is $20 at Newegg.

How do you find the kickstand? I just played with this case at a store and noticed the metal click doesn't click back into place after you open it up. It sticks out and isn't flush with the device. Do you have this problem also or does the kickstand close properly. I don't want to get this case if the kickstand closing will be an issue in the future. Do you also know if I could use a .4mm glass screen protector with this case?

The kickstand stays closed. It isn't flush with the back. I have the mime tempered glass screen protector and it works just fine

The one I was playing with stays like a "V" shape. Just to clarify no problems with yours and it won't get caught in the pockets? Are you using a tempered glass mime screen protector? I'm looking into that one or the Spigen with a max thickness of .4mm and want to make sure it'll fit.

The kickstand should snap closed for normal usage. When opened, it is like a v shape. I have no problem in my pocket, but as said, the kickstand does stick out a little beyond the back

Yes I have the mime tempered glass screen protector.

I got mine from Newegg for around $20

Is there anyone here that has the Spigen Neo Hybrid? My wife ordered me one a month ago for a gift and I have been rocking it since. However over the last couple of weeks now I have noticed that the red paint is starting to come off around the edges and showing white.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I have one. Loved it at first but if you remove it more than 2-3 times from the phone I've noticed the plastic parts becomes loose and doesn't go around the phone as tightly as when new. I have moved on to another case...

I have the Silver Satin finish and black. I had it since day one it has held up great except for a few scratches from a fall to the concrete. I guess the colored ones chip because it is painted. I have no complaints.

Mine has held up really well, and I've removed it quite a few times.

I just got a used mint note and put a speck grip candyshell on it, it's awesome! Good protection and good one handed grip.

I have read about this on the forums before, especially the red color

That sucks. I have learned to live with it. I tried to reach out to Spigen with no luck. And judging by their warranty description, it wouldn't be covered anyway.

I haven't visited this thread in a while, but I have been alternating a ton of cases recently (I think I have a total of 10), some simple TPU cases, some with better protection

But now my favorite two cases are:

- Incipio Dualpro shine, silver backing

- And a clear TPU case, when I want to go light.

I also just ordered an Otterbox Commuter, black, so that will likely be my third case I'll rotate thru.

Weird when I sent them an email, they responded and sent a replacement for a cracked case

What are your opinions on the basic Samsung Flip case? Do you think the flip cover feature is annoying? I found one locally for $15 bucks brand new.

Are you talking about a Flip case or the S-view cover?

If the S-view cover, I love it. But if you found that for $15 it's probably a fake.

If flip cover, it's just personal preference for how you like your phone to look and if you want to be able to glance at your screen without opening a case. On a practical side, it would provide some protection for the screen, unlike most non-flip cases, but then make sure you get one that has a closure or you buy a magnet or something to keep in closed in a fall.

I was talking about the flip cover but nevermind, it was already sold. Ah well!

If anyone is interested I modified the otterbox Defender case a bit, so I can also use my Anker 6400 mah extended battery with it!

So the defender basically comes in 3 pieces.

1. The front plastic piece with the screen protector
2. The back plastic piece that goes around back of your phone
3. The TPU rubber outer case.

Well I used the Anker extended battery with the battery cover that came with the Anker. I did NOT use #2 above, the back plastic piece from defender, instead used the back piece that came with the Anker battery.

So I slide the front piece (#1 above) over the phone, and carefully placed the entire phone into the TPU outer case. It is a very tight fit, due to the small bulge of the back of phone from the extended battery, so you may need to stretch the TPU case a little but don't worry, it will not rip or break. Make sure everything snaps into place, around the corner of the phone with TPU case

It will be very sturdy with a tiny, barely noticeable bulge in back due to the battery. Only issue I found is the power rubber button on the right of the case and volume buttons (especially the lower volume) does not sit exactly where it should over the actual phone. Visually you cannot tell but when you go to press, like the volume down button, you'll have to push it in a slight angle. Not a big deal for me, and I think a very small tradeoff for such a comfortable case and battery life.

Case feels a million times better in my hands than the Zerolemon case, which I also have, or any of the crappy cases for the Anker battery.

Now you have the protection of the otterbox defender case, and double the stock battery life in your phone. This, for me is a keeper, . I was changing cases like crazy before, but I think I finally found the perfect setup for my Note 3 😊

I also modified an Otterbox Defender, but I used a Dremel tool to cut a square out of the Defender back piece just big enough for the battery to fit through. Like mchi5, I have the protection of the Otterbox and the battery life of the Anker 6400, making it about as close to the perfect phone as we'll ever find!
