Galaxy Note Edge is now 100% Unique & will likely remain so

Re: Galaxy Note Edge is now 100% Unique & will likely remain so

So, I realise this may be off-topic somewhat from the path of the thread, however I have a question about the Note Edge, and I thought you guys would be the best to answer it. I ended up getting the Note 4 due to budget constraints, but the Edge looked mighty tempting! I do love my Note 4, and my Autistic brain is content with the familiar form-factor, and the ability to personalise phone with any number of cases, which brings me to the crux of my question.

I'm a biological anthropologist, and use the HELL out of my Note 4 in the lab while I'm researching, as well as jotting down extra notes to improve my lectures as I'm giving them. This phone, after a disturbingly LONG like of other phones(I started with the Palm Pilot, and ran all the way to a Pre, which I adore, ran through the BB Pearl and some other there, before landing on Android with the HTC Evo. That was my introduction to Android, and not long after that I owned a Motorolla Photon, and rapidly dropped that for an S2. Since thay fateful acquistion, I have been a Sammy-girl all the way. (Although my Palm Pre will always have a soft spot in my heart.) Now, I am THRILLED beyond belief with this Note 4, which I did use naked for some time, since I think the design of the phone carries a subtle sophistication and elegance lost on the general masses, but I did eventually put a case on it to help protect the phone in the lab, and have begun my trademark caseadd© That said... here's my question. What kinds of cases, if any, are available for the Note Edge, and how do they do on the device? With one side curved, I cannot but imagine cases sliding off everywhere, or not having a firm hold on the Edge .

I realise I could have Googled this, but I prefer getting my answers from a reliable group of people who use the Edge as their daily driver.

Thanks to all for both getting through my rambling post and any answers/insights you are willing to share!!

Best to you all!!!

Kelly

I use the oem flip case which I think keeps the sleek look of the device without making it too bulky. It also allows the click to pop up automatically once you flip it shut as well as use the edge features which are actually pretty cool!!!!

S6 Edge does not have Edge options. All it does is a flip to the left to show top contacts (we already have a contacts Edge panel), that is not Edge options. You can't have Edge options without Edge Panel.

Hmm.. I'm a but confused but I guess I get your point. But S6 Edge offers features (be it minimal) not offered on the S6

S6 Edge, has no relation to the Note Edge. There is Zero coloration whatsoever.

In order to have the Note Edge experience you need to have an Edge Panel.

So, stop pushing this, I recommend that you study the S6 Edge in more depth and gain a better understanding of it, before continuing in this thread. Thanks!

What he/she said. The S6 panel is HILARIOUSLY in no way comparable to the Edge Panel. Now THAT PANEL on that phone is "gimmicky." It took the idea of rhe Edge, implemented it then forgot to add any functionality to it other than basic contacts and messages.

I am a dude. I think Samsung has made the right choice with S6 Edge, keep in mind that people are not tech savvy. The hundreds of millions of people who buy the iPhone and Samsung S series want simplicity and the S6 Edge gives it to them, while maintaining a unique look to set them apart from the iPhone.

Also what's said on these forums, although valid for certain type of pro phones (Note), have no bearing on the real world. Because the general public does not visit nor participate in enthusiasts forums. So, all the guys who are complaining about not being able to remove the battery on the S6 on these forums won't impact the sale of it.

What I am interested in eventually seeing is 3-month sales results on S6 vs S6Edge (as I am sure Samsung is curious too). I wonder what percentage of the public will pay the premium to have a curved phone just to look different. Even though that really depends on how Samsung hypes the S6 Edge, they have to pull a iPhone grade marketing on it. Give it to lots of celebs, have it pop up in every movie, TV show and music video. Really give it a halo effect, then people will pay the premium just have the "must have" new phone. But, I don't think Samsung has the marketing chops.

Yes I understand all this, however the s6 offers a more minimalistic approach, so having the *option* of either would be a nice change. However, I understand your point (as well as Shiva) that its nothing like the note edge. Just an idea, not much more

I played with an edge at the vzw store. I had to hit chrome about 4 times before it would open. Sometimes my thumb would slide and move the edge. Do you ever have a problem selecting an app on the edge panel.

Oh does the note edge still have an led notifier and 2 radios in the vzw model?

The Edge is not for everyone that's why there are so few out there. In order to avoid accidental launching of apps, the icons must be tapped accurately. Yes on Led notifier.

This is the key reason as to why Apple is kicking Samsung's behind. Apple products are constantly in public's face.

Apple had the most product placement in the films of 2014 | The Verge

Even my local news show uses iPhones/iPads on every morning show. They even use their iPhones to post on Twitter all the time. They are pro Apple in every way and tell all the latest Apple news where they rarely tell what's happening with Android.

You know there are no accidents. If something is a success, is because there is a good reason for it. Apple has almost gone away a few times already, but so far they have always bounced back. Once was because Bill Gates bankrolled them. Also Apple is American and Samsung is Korean, I totally get a US news program to be pro Apple.

But what saved Apple this time were two things: Huge popularity of Apple in China and they finally going large with their phones.

But even a cat has only nine lives, I am not sure if Apple will ultimately maintain this level of excitement, nor Samsung Galaxy. Samsung is the most stupid conglomerate I have seen. They had it all and lost it so fast due to antiquated Korean Corp culture. Will they ever get it back? No. Palm, Motorola, Blackberry and in a few years iPhone and Samsung Galaxy will all belong in the past winners group. The only thing that might offer the iPhone an artificial life extension is that their users don't easily want to change operating systems. They feel locked into iOS.

Let's see who else will lead in the next couple of years. Too bad Sony can't get it together and Google products aren't popular.

Google is losing customers cuz they do not listen. They screwed up perfectly fine google maps for no particular reason and would never even discuss bringing back labs or navigation without destination modes. Users like sd card so let's get rid of it. Users like removable batteries so let's follow apple's unfixable battery system. If someone would write apps for windows phones I'd switch.

Yep! There are no success accidents, if something is hot, is because it delivers in some form to large groups of people.

Very curious how earth shattering S6 and S6 Edge will be as far as sales.

I'm sure they will be as good as your precious Note Edge.

that's an unwarranted sarcastic attack. it has no place on this forum. you clearly lost my point.

I obviously meant how they'll sell, not how good they are.

Maybe, but trust me.. Multiple companies will try to expand on the Edge idea... We've witness this before with the Atrix..

After reconsidering this thread (and I'm in an odd mood), I know I didn't get my phone because of who does or does not have one. I simply couldn't ever possibly care less about that. I like my Edge because its on the technological forefront and offers something unique.

I recommend to consider simply enjoying your device for what it can do. The Note Edge is an extremely complete device. More so than even my Note 4. That's what I appreciate about it.

However, I do understand why some may find exclusivity attractive.
