Galaxy Note II - the forgotten flagship...

Not quite sure how you deduced December and Note II last, least not from the article quoted. Basically the article reads as though we'll see 4.3 mid November.

Read all the articles -- including the one I first linked to, in my first post about it -- and closer to the end than the beginning of December seems when it'll be for the Note II. But, of course, we could wager! [grin] What... how 'bout the loser makes a $10 donation to the winner's favorite charity in his name. Game?

The thing with this stuff is, though, that the carriers usually announce it before now. With every AT&T Samsung phone I've ever owned before, there was some kind of press release regarding OS upgrades which listed the phones to be included, in the order that they'd be upgraded, and a general timeframe... usually weeks and weeks before it begins. I'm not seeing any of that yet, and it bothers me.

I think I'm gonna' do some more serious and deeper Googling today... maybe make a call to a Samsung US customer service supervisor whose direct number I happen to have; and who, in the past, has been willing to make a few internal phone calls for me to find stuff out. (Sure hope he still works there!)

Note 2 is good enough for me, I do not want to pay so much money on it to get a 1080p screen

Yeah, I'm with ya', there...

...except you know what REALLY has my attention regarding the Note III? The 3GB of RAM (Note II has 2GB), and the 2.3GHz processor (Note II has 1.6GHz). Those two things will make the Note III a screamer! Truth is, even with the 1.6GHz processor, the Note II's performance could be significantly enhanced if we could just have another GB of RAM.

Still... for the amount extra that the Note III costs, I dunno... I've not found anything that the Note II can't do to way more than my satisfaction. It's a terrific phone... much better than the original Note, I can attest. It's unclear, though, if the Note III is really that much better than the Note II; and that will especially be true once the Note II has the 4.3 upgrade.

Of course, you know how this stuff works: We swear we'll not upgrade; and then when our two year contract nears its end and the phone to which we swore we'd never upgrade is down to $99, we go ahead and do it. [grin]

Alas we are not all American I'm using an international unlocked version, things work slightly different over here in England, we're not held to ransom by carriers like you seem to be in the States.

That's something only those who root their phones would care about; and people who do that pretty much already know how and where to find everything they need.

I could be wrong, but I believe most of the posters wondering about 4.3 for the Note II are thinking more in terms of wondering when their carriers -- in my case AT&T, but there are obviously carriers all over the world -- will be offering (likely over-the-air (OTA)) upgrades to 4.3 Jelly Bean to unrooted phones.

Or am I wrong? I've been known to be, you know. [grin]

My rooted Note 2 has treated me well the last 10 months. I still have no desire to buy a different phone.

Exactly the same sentiment here regarding my rooted Note 2 (running original stock software 4.1.1)!. Almost a year later and IMO still holds its own quite well, even against newer devices including its successor the Note 3.

I wasn't sure about upgrading, but Verizon offered the note 3 for $90 on release day, and I bit. However for $300,I would have waited

Well, it costs Samsung money to release these updates. How long should they push OS version changes out? 1 year. 2 years. 3 years? You only paid for the phone to work as is. OS version updates are really important its best to get a Nexus device. I have a Note 3 and I have no right to expect that they're going to update to 4.4 or whatever else Google releases in the year.

What about charging for updates? My only peeve is the S Note app. The opening lag is absurd, while on extracting the S Pen the mini S Note runs faster. What happened here?

2nd place annoyance is my the Gallery loads slow w/ my tons of photo & vids.

App refreshes would be great, I would pay for them. Android updates I would also play for them but I can understand that dealing w/ Google is an obstacle & thus not every SS device will be supported.
