Galaxy Note questions.

Hello everyone. I am thinking of buying a Galaxy Note to use as my next phone. I'd figured since it has been out for a year and the prices have gone down it would be a good phone to use. I am on T-Mobile's monthly4g $50 prepaid plan. I see on ebay original Galaxy Notes of model SGH-T879 for a good price, in the $200 to $400 range, and unlocked At&t Notes SGH-I717 in the same price range. There are also Canadian SGH-I717s for sale around the 3 to 4 hundred dollar range that I am also interested in. My biggest question is in case a T-mobile note is not around on ebay, will the unlocked/rooted At&t or unlocked/rooted Canadian note work in a refarmed T-mobile area?

Yes. I am using an i717 (AT&T Galaxy Note LTE) and unlocked it and am using a TMobile sim/service. I get great speeds. I am not sure about any of the Canadian Notes.

In my shopping, the i717 was cheaper than the T879 (Tmobile version). I bought from a good company on Ebay and the phone was in great shape. Only very minor scratches. I thought it would be worse.

Good luck

EDIT: I am in a refarmed Tmobile area and the speeds are as good as my Tmobile phone (HTC Amaze 4G)

Thank you for the information tube. Now the only thing is will this awesome device work when I pop in my sim card, configure the t-mobile apn settings (epc.t-mobile.com or fast.t-mobile.com), or will I have to flash a t-mobile radio/modem via ClockworkMod or Teamwin recovery? Either way would be pretty good since I hope the device comes with 4.1.2 or install it via Odin. I also have heard about the battery life issues with Jelly Bean on the I717.

As long as the phone is unlocked, you only need to put in the sim card. Unlocking the phone is the main thing. I have never had to mess with any APN settings at all. Some of the custom ROMs may require a flash of the T-mobile modems but some don't. You would have to test it out at your own risk. Be sure to do a nandroid backup before flashing any ROM or any T-mobile modems. Also, use Titanium Backup to backup apps. I use TWRP recovery. CWM recovery is very erratic. Most devs recommend TWRP. I'm on THE Collective AOCP ROM and the battery life is pretty good. I also use Greenify app and that helps alot. I didn't flash any T-mobile modems with The Collective ROM or Jamie's REVOLT ROM. I"m getting 8-12 MBPS down on average.

Thank you for all your help, I appreciate it. I always had the I717 down as an option for a new phone, and now that I know it will work right out of the box in my area, all it takes is finding one on eBay in great condition and at the right price.

Good luck and hopefully you find a good one on Ebay. Check out Swappa also.
