Best to be skeptical about a report such as this but we can always hope.

From a thread in r/Android on Reddit.

" Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless about the boot loader for the Galaxy S3. I know this may be frustrating but there will be a solution soon coming. Samsung will be releasing a software update to unlock your device. Right now, we do not have a date for the release but it shall be soon. Verizon Wireless appreciates you as a customer and your patience in this matter. Have a great weekend!"

I would guess it is the sim they are talking about, unless verizon doesnt want samsung to take sales away from them by releasing a developer phone so they are going to unlock to bootloader

I want to believe, I want to believe. I'm going to hold my breath until it comes true.

while this would definitely be nice of them to do. I'll probably be long dead by the time it happens.

Debunked. Sim unlock. Yeah we can use our phones overseas. I'm gonna guess the majority of us spend most of our time in America. Lol. Useless to me

Verizon Galaxy S3 locked bootlocker to be fixed by software update

hmmm the droid life link has comments of people posting similar conversations with reps and specifically mentioned bootloader..... guess theres a chance

If Verizon is allowing the bootloader to be unlocked... then why would Samsung be releasing and unlocked bootloader VZW/Dev S3??

What would be the point?

That might be a good reason why Verizon might be doing so...not to allow the unknown on the network.

Nah, the Verizon reps don't know the difference between the bootloader and the sim unlock for global use. I definitely am not holding out any hope.

If it sounds too good to be true...
This is Verizon we are dealing with here.

Yup and you know how that goes if it sounds to good to be true then it usually isnt true.
It's just combination of ,,,confusion or how its being interrupted ,,or just wishful thinking .

The more I researched about this the more it seems to be about the global unlocking .That was mentioned I think even before the S3 was released ,,, that it was going to be unlocked with an update sometime after its release.

Verizon blames Samsung for Galaxy S3's locked bootloader, Developer Edition in response

I would say don't get your hopes up on anything about the bootloader. While it would be fantastic and actually restore some of my faith in Verizon I don't see it happening. However, I see it this way. Can you imagine how many people sent these devices back due to the locked bootloader? That would be a massive amounts of refunds and a massive amount of lost revenue. It is possible that Verizon is now rethinking its strategy since most people who got their phone first have until this Thursday or Friday to send them back.

You can't take what either company says as true. If Verizon claims that they require a locked bootloader on all of their devices explain the GNex. While its a Google device, Verizon's statement regarding the bootloader says that it requires the bootloader to be locked to provide blah blah blah. It MAY have been Samsung doing this so they can pull sales from Verizon and take them for themselves. Welcome to capitalism!

I don't think you are correct in thinking It is Samsung's decision/fault for the locked Bootloader. If they were, then they would of locked the boatloader on all of the s3's they released and not just Verizon's.
