Galaxy S III bootloader patch coming soon?

Sorry guys, droid-life just reported that Verizon has said that they are NOT giving an OTA update to unlock the bootloader. Customer service reps at verizon were confused.

You guys are wrong, there is an unlock available soon, it's called the developer phone.

How could anyone have believed Verizon would ever do anything to help their customers! I bet they had a real good laugh at Verizon HQ when they heard the rumors of a software update to unlock the phone.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they somehow limit the developer phone, saying its 'not the optimal experience on our network'.

Excuse my ignorance, but can't the appropriate files on the developer S3 be stripped and substituted on all of the locked S3's? They're the same phones, so shouldn't the files work and be able to be written over the signature encrypted files on our phones?

Probably, I'm just clueless and maybe the problem remains with our phones not acceptiing the developer edition files because they're not "signed" by VZW. However, it seems to me that there should be a way to simply overwrite the chip with a mirror of the developer system files.

So, how is my thinking all wrong?
