I know what might fix it, a factory reset. I'm afraid that I might lose my emails & text msgs. I don't think that they get backed up to google.

I don't know how to put this phone into safe mode, or factory reset for that matter.
HD the power button until these icons display on the screen then hold power off on the screen until safe mode appears and tap , to exit out of safe mode just reboot the device

If you have Google back up it won't
To factory reset go to settings>general management>reset>factory reset

A factory reset should fix it; it's just a PITA to have to do it. I would suggest setting up as a new device and not restoring from a backup. Restoring from a backup could reintroduce the problem.

Asfor your emails and texts, don't worry about them. Those are all server side. Once you log back into your Gmail account(s) and get connected with whatever texting app you use, those will all repopulate. Wiping your phone only wipes the device side copies of those emails and texts.

To answer your question about those four icons. The "hamburger" (three lines) is message options. The smiley face is to insert an emoji, the arrow is to send, and the last one is your backspace. The emoji and backspace I am "4 Imprint" certain. The other two, I'm pretty certain, just not, "4 Imprint" certain.

Perhaps your S-Pen was locked by another task, which could explain why the game reacted the way it did. If the Pen was locked by another task, it would expect to see that task open/in use/active, and then finds another app in use, it might cause unexpected behavior. Again it would be so much easier if there was a clear way to force stop the S-Pen and/or close the S-Pen app. You might think that restarting the phone would be enough but have you noticed that background apps repopulate even after a restart? I get it, those were the last things running and they may be technically closed/stopped once the device restarts but somehow they are still there. Perhaps in this same way even with restarts the S-Pen is still locked into this phantom task.

Again since we're not able to go to a specific place to clear the cache or force stop the app, perhaps getting an app like Cclean and doing a full phone cache clear might help push this task out.

Out of curiosity what did you do when that popped up? Did you discard it and not save as a draft? Have you gone into that email account and discarded it since? With this being the only clue so far, perhaps clearing the cache on your email app alone, to see what the result is...?

Before I do the crossword, I clear the cache of that app. That gets me through half the game. Then I put the s-pen back into the phone, and finish up with my other stylus. I'm not doing anything, anymore with this phone. By the end of this year I'll have a Pixel. Thanks again for your help, but I'm done with it.
