Galaxy S3 and hands-free bluetooth: FAIL

I am new to Samsung and Android, coming over from iPhone. In general, this equipment and platform blows the iPhone away, however, in two critical areas of daily use I find it deeply inferior, both having to do with hands-free use.
1) When driving and the phone is locked and in my pocket (keypad pin lock as is attached to a corporate account), and I decide I want to make a call using my bluetooth headset, I press the button on the headset. I get a satisfying s-voice beep tone, but s-voice cannot hear the input from the bluetooth headset. The only way to get it to work is to fish the phone out, manually unlock it with the code, and then use the s-voice. Ummm... that isn't handsfree and will get you a ticket in the states that require handsfree. No setting combination on the s-voice settings or bluetooth settings have solved this issue. Someone needs to dig into the code and enable the bluetooth mic and speaker when the button is pressed even when the device is locked. If there is a security concern about this, at least it should be a user selectable option. I'm by no means the first to experience this issue, I have found other threads on several forums. Hopefully Samsung will take note and DO something about this. It is an easy fix if they bother. Probably take someone who knows the S-voice code less than a day to do.

2) Again, an issue with bluetooth handsfree. Again, in the car and now listening to my music from the S3 over a bluetooth pairing to my stereo. Lovely! I now decide I want to make a phone call. Tapping the button on my paired bluetooth headset doesn't transfer the "attention" of the phone to that device!?! Heck, my ancient Motorola flip phone did that. My iPhones all did that. What is up with the S3? The phone should monitor for most recent button push of any paired bluetooth device and flip to using that one. Again, if in doubt, make this a user selectable option, but having to fish my phone out, unlock it using the pin, and then manually change the bluetooth device is just neanderthalic!

So. There it is, my single biggest gripe about the S3 after a week of living with it. Otherwise, what a wonderful piece of equipment!
I suppose I could ditch S-Voice, but is there another app out there that gets it all right? I do think this is the sort of thing that the phone should just come with... Am I wrong? Has someone found a way to make this work?

Mine works fine but I don't have a PIN lock. I'm using S-Voice with a Plantronics Voyager Legend. A lot of people like Vlingo but I never had any luck with it. Assistant also worked pretty well for me. Lastly, you could try Bluetooth Launch which has varying degrees of success.

I don't think any of those other applications are going to work either. The problem is the way that Samsung implemented the PIN lock makes it so that the bluetooth cannot send or receive signals until it is unlocked. If I remove the account with the PIN lock, then the S-Voice works fine.

I still have a gripe about the auto switching between previously paired bluetooth objects though. If the phone is connected to the Jabra headset, pushing the button on my car stereo does not switch the sound to there, and vice versa is true as well, I cannot take the command of the signal by tapping the button on the Jabra headset. That functionality has been standard on phones for ages and for some reason isn't in the Galaxy SIII. Again, I am sure that this is less than a days work for the guy that knows the code... Samsung, please, make the change!

I have a pin code on mine and i can make calls and listen to music without touching my phone. It's odd that your having this issue. I hope you find a fix soon.

It may not be the S3. The security policy for your Cop account may be doing this. With a regular PIN defined by the OS works fine however with a Corp account there is also a security policy they invoke which prompts you to enter a PIN or passcode on initial setup. keep that in mind. This is what gives them the ability to remotely wipe your device etc...

You should definitely ditch S Voice for use with bluetooth. It's hideous. Just use the mic button on the google search bar widget.

Still sounds like a bug even if this is the case. The OP should report the bug to Samsung.
BTW, another Bluetooth fail is Bluetooth LE (Low Energy)...part of the Bluetooth 4.0 spec. It lets you connect stuff like heart rate monitors, etc. and have batteries that last months instead of weeks. The hardware supports it. Google and Samsung have to work together to support it and neither did. The only Android phones that work w/ it so far are Motorola ones which were broken w/ the ICS update.
iPhones and WP work fine w/ Bluetooth LE...

I am having the very same issue I also have S3 and I am using the Icon headset it worked good with htc evo never have to put my pin in to wake the phone up. Has anyone found away to make it work. I do not want to remove my pin. But I really need to us the phone hands free. It is interesting that if I get a incoming call it works but not if I need to make a call. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Samsung and they have the same quality of tech support as htc it should be rename little to no support. I would think with someone doing it 8 hours a day they would be much more knowledgeable i am shock on little they know even the ones who have the s3 were clueless. But please if anyone know how to do this I would and I think many others would be most thankful.

I found a solution. I installed Tasker and Secure Settings. In Tasker, I create a profile for when my bluetooth device connects to my phone. I then created a task that disables my PIN.
I also created a profile that re-enables my PIN when the bluetooth connection is lost.

I still say that Samsung has this screwed up and I'm very disappointed that I even had to install third party software to make this work.

I am having same problems with my S3. I like your solution but I was wondering how you get your phone to unlock with your bluetooth only?

Sorry I have asked the same question twice. I am new to this forum & was getting message that I wasn't getting posted.

Thanks for your help!
