Galaxy s3 mini - Work Outlook account stops syncing when I leave the office

I was wondering if anyone could advise why my phone stops syncing my Outlook email when I leave the office.
I have unlimited data package, and wi-fi at home which I connect to.

But I can only connect to work email when I am in the office, which defeats the purpose of my having an internet enabled work phone .

I would appreciate any advice

Presumably because you are no longer connected to your works network.

I use Touchdown but IIRC something needs enabling at the works server end.

Is the work Exchange server connected to the internet, or only to the LAN? If it's not connected to the internet, you'll need a VPN connection to the LAN to connect when you're not in the office. Talk to your network administrator - it depends on how he set it up, and what he's willing to change.
