Galaxy S3 not syncing Google Contacts

Yes this process worked except, I just exported and then imported again without deleting the contacts.

I did however delete one contact just to be sure I got them back. When I imported them, I sent them to my gmail account which sent to them correctly to gmail.

Interestingly enough, that one contact didn't restore to my phone. I then imported again, this time to my phone. I now have a little blue g on my contacts, and I presume that this means they will sync correctly and that one contact restored.

Thanks,

Jim

In my phone, the issue was because 'there was not enough storage space to sync gmail'. I cleared some space and it worked.

I tried Chals fix but it did not work. Contacts have Google Icon but new contact does not make it to my gmail and neither does update of existing contact. It has not synced in 9 months. Everything syncs except my contacts so I suspect it is lack of space. How can I tell if lack of space it the issue and do I need to delete contacts in order to gain more space?

I tried this and it did not work, still will not sync contacts. It was simple though. If I deleted all my contact from my phone and the uploaded them from Google, is it possible the sync would start working? I doubt it. The contacts sync date just stays 06/11/2014 and does not change no matter what I do. Everthing else is synced.

Hi guys
Bought a second hand S3 mini for my who dropped her S2 and smashed it. All her contacts were backed up with her gmail/google account, but when trying to sync it, it only comes up with 14 contacts. Can't do a back up of the old phone because the screen is stuffed and can't unlock it. Any ideas?

Okay... I found this workaround which works for me, maybe it works for you.

My problem was that contacts show up if you search for them (for example, if you have a contact called joe at whatever com in your google contacts, it will show up if you seach for "jo" or "joe", but it won't show up under "J" when you scroll through your contacts.

1. Press the off-screen options button and go to "contacts to display".
2. See the gear icon next to "customized list"? Press it.
3. Under the name of your google account, make sure everything is checked. BTW the view options for other accounts (phone, sim, facebook whatever) can be set according to your preference, it doesnt affect anything (captain obvious).
4. Voila! All google contacts show up!

The drawback is you can't select to view only friends/family.

PS: Same deal happens with my old LG Optimus 2X. Google broke something, and didn't bother to fix it, because apparently Google has left the Contacts app to rot.

I know this topic has been around for a while, but I can't find the answer to this question. My Galaxy S3 is not syncing contacts, and hasn't for a while. I see that one of the solutions is to go to APPS and clear the data from CONTACTS and CONTACTS STORAGE. My question is..will clearing the data delete all the contacts I currently have on the phone? I know I should probably back 'em up first any way, but the question remains, is it customary for them to be deleted by clearing the data? Thanks in advance....
