Galaxy S3 sample videos ...Audio not good

Note: if your watching those vids on your phone or computer, the internal speakers cant really differentiate. Put some headphones on and you will definitely notice the difference in audio.

Sounds to me like the audio is being over-compressed. I'm sure there has to be a setting somewhere. No way the mic could be that horrible.

To be fair, the OneX audio isn't that much better. A little less tinny, perhaps, but lots of clipping and noise. The samples of the S2 on the other hand are significantly better than both. And I know from using the S2, that in a crowded concert or gymnasium, the audio was nothing to write home about.

So I'm on record that I agree that this is a serious flaw or a software glitch, and hoping it's the latter. Then again, I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've shot video with my phone.

Alright, after a lot of experiments, I found out that it's the Video recording application Encoder that got a bad equalizing and encoding...cause when I tried in other recording audio applications, quality was totally different...
So it's not the hardware Mic of the Galaxy S3...it's not the Operating System...it's 100% the VideoCamera application on S3 need to be fixed which I believe they will do if we complained enough about it...

Just not to sound like i'm Mr. Know it all, everything i stated above came from a studio test...I'm a music producer and a sound engineer...and big fan of Samsung Galaxy Series...so that's why i decided to do a full scientific test to find out the problem and try to report it to Samsung...

Anyway in this test, I used the following:
Samsung Galaxy S2
Samsung Galaxy S3
Macbook Pro
Condenser Mic Shure KSM44

I used the built in Audio Recorder from S2 and S3 and also added to the test the macbook pro built in mic which supposed to be a high quality laptop mic.
In the test there were a full song and a recorded dialogue which has only vocals in it...and kept all the devices in the same location away from the output speakers around 50cm...

This is what I got:
S2, S3 are identical...same quality sound came out from both...The S2 sounded a bit compressed in the highs, but I could hear the mid perfectly comparing to the Macbook Pro Mic...I actually preferred the S3 Mic comparing to the other 2 devices...

PROBLEM STARTED when used the Video Camera on Full HD and recorded the same Dialogue, Song...
What happened here, that the person who programmed the audio encoder. I believe did it based on an old complains that the S2 used to catch a lot of bass which is causing a lot of distortion when you record video in a high volume place, like a club or a concert...so the MR. Programmer instead of fixing it he made it worst...He cut all the frequences from 100hz till 1000hz and kept everything else above that...which is good to be heard on a small speaker like a phone speaker, and you can compress it to sound really high, but take it anywhere else even on a laptop, it will sound ...
So all what they have to do is to reprogram the filter, to allow at least 90hz to 20khz or if the Mic can't take that much Low, to start from 300hz to 20khz...same programming for the built in Audio recorder in the S3...

If anyone gotta contact with the guys in Samsung...let them test what I mentioned above themselves and they will find it all right..and that's the way to fix it...

the main point is our hardware is not spoiled, and no need to go change your phone...it's just a wrong programming and will be fixed...so keep your phone, it's the best thing you ever bought!

The video samples I've seen seem to suffer from constant micro adjustments to focus. Almost enough to start causing motion sickness.

I thought i was the only one that noticed this! almost all the videos ive watched, its constantly refocusing

If I understand correctly, the issue has nothing to do with the speakers/headphones used during playback, and everything to do with the mic and the software coding used during the recording.

beats vs bose won't matter....the damage is done.

Won't even be corrected if you use a REAL good pair of headphones like Seinnheiser

Is it fixed yet? The Audio is still horrible.. I'm having second thoughts in getting the S3 just because of the audio!! This is really irritating.. cuz from top to bottom in all specs.. basically S3 beats the out of most phones.. and here we have a problem with the audio.. I would tolerate if it's average mic quality.. but it basically sound like you're recording the thing from the toilet bowl.

It's so bad, that I might even consider the S2 if they're not going to fix it on the S3.. and get a better phone in a few years time. I just hope they fix this.. I don't get it why everyone's ignoring this problem at current time.. It's so hard to even find these topics on the S3 audio capture on the web! It couldn't be a hardware issue.. might be a software.. but it's been almost three months now since released and I'm just going to wait for another two months max, If they're not fixing it.. then to hell with Galaxy S3.. cuz I need the Video recording more than ever on the go.. And I need something real easy to bring around. Like in my pocket.

Compared to the Evo 4G and Galaxy S2, the audio is far superior from my tests although none of them can handle concert level volumes without blowing out. The only phone I've ever seen or owned that had satisfactory audio in almost every situation was the EVO 3D.

I would really like to find something like the Blue Microphones Mikey for an Android device so we can get audio worthy of the excellent video.

The S3 dosent have better audio I and it sodent use the famous wolfson chip apple is using the Iphone is using a far better Audio chip and DAC than S3 even S2 sounds better then S3 I dont know why sammy is degrading the audio quality (I guesss they want to save money). Also I dont understand why reviews say the audio is as good as iphone I think maybe they get paid to say that from sammy anyway thats my 2 cents.

I typically record live music and any time there is any bass what so ever it's totally distorted. I know why am I buying a phone for a video recorder? Well because my old Iphone did such a good job I did not have the need to carry two devices. Now I still need to carry my Iphone (de activated) and my S3 phone because it's just plain terrible and am limited to the old 720p recording. Are there any recording apps that get around this? I'm stuck with the S3 for almost two years until I can go back to an Iphone, and knowing that it's software I would hate to think I may need to buy a $650 Iphone out of contract, or drop $300 for a decent video recorder and still carry two devices around. How can a flagship phone fall so short on a simple category?

come on man, you didn't buy a Galaxy SIII to ONLY make phone calls. They are called smart phones for a reason, and if you just wanted a phone you could have gotten a "phone" for free. Samsung dropped the ball on this one.

hi. I just got an s3. I had a S1 i9000 before, it was stolen. The audio was great on the S1! i had no complaint for a smart phone. i was very happy. (except for wind noise and handling noise, but all smart phones seem to suffer this) for audio alone i would use "HQ Audio Recorder" app. I was very pleased. i recognised someone had put some effort to get good sound from such a small device.

I received an s3 this week as an insurance replacement for the S1. It sounds awful with audio/mic capture on the video camera and on the HQ app , relative to the S1!

hissy , distorted wafting compression noise. (minimal to most people, who don't care or need good sound) The lack of low end and high end, it sounds like a cheap £5 mp3 player from china playing a low quality 96khz mp3. Even though I record at 48khz 16 bit via the HQ app. The S1 sounded much more clear with a little hiss in the background. hiss is fine! but compressed wafting distortion is not .

The distortions are not from the mic capsule diaphragm or from interference or even the preamp, it is some type of digital and dynamic compression before it gets to the HQ recorder app.

What a b's****!! I'll need to pay a restock fee likely when i take it back as i opened the box etc. , i am sure they will say they can't hear the iissue too. I would prefer my old s1 back !

The s2 had audio issues to, i have read it's not the same audio converters as the s1. Not saying the S1 was perfect, but I was pleasantly surprised and I did not need to search the net all day trying to figure out what to do next. Plus the battery of the s3 is dreadful. needs an upgrade to an 4200 mah and new case. the camera app seems a bit cr*p too , I am seeing exposure issues. I like the light on the back though.S1 did not have that.

Awesome phone otherwise , very fast with the quad cpu. compared to the S1, 1 ghz single core, i believe. its just that sound issue really that bothers me. I need a dictaphone and mobile all in one with ability to lock the audio in with a password protect.
