Galaxy S3 Screen Not Working?

Someone in another thread suggested an MHL <-> HDMI adapter - you could hook your phone up to a TV and (hopefully) see if everything looks like it's working. If it does then you're probably just facing an LCD/digitizer replacement.
It's unfortunate that you can't use a USB-ON-THE-GO cable simultaneously or you could actually navigate the phone UI.
Oh, one other thing you could try is hooking up to the Kies software on your PC - at a minimum you could back everything up, and it would be a good indicator if the phone is working.

Diana,
Are you saying that your phone no longer boots, or that you no longer have a swipe lock screen? If the latter, that would be perfectly normal after a Factory Reset - you just need to go in and re-enable swipe lock functionality.
I don't recognize the phone model that you listed - if it were similar to the SGSIII then it would be Settings -> Lock screen -> Screen lock

That's a problem, all right.

But without providing us more information than that, all we can do is tell you to take it somewhere to get it repaired. I suggest you start with the first post in this thread, read all the posts trying any suggestions offered, and then tell us if anything worked. If nothing worked, tell us exactly what is happening, and anything you did before the problem occurred.

My touchscreen stopped working for the first time about a month ago. After trying to press all the buttons and press apps, nothing responded. After a few minutes, I figured out to try a battery pull. Pulled out battery for a few seconds and then put back in and all was back to normal. Only problem is it's happened about 3 times now. I've never dropped my phone, so wondering if it's related to a recent update. My phone isn't even a year old yet.
Another thing, I've pulled my phone out of my front pocket a few times and it was in safe mode. Not sure how that happened, but a reboot fixed that as well. I'm hoping I don't need to take my phone in for repairs. Not really looking forward to a factory reset either. Seems like the screen not responding is happening to other people from this thread.

So I just had this same problem.

I put my phone in the freezer because it stopped working after I took a hot shower.

I thought it had something to do with the thermal properties of the digitizer so I did the opposite and put it in our freezer which also has a dehumidifier.

It worked after fifteen minutes.

I did restart it a couple of times beforehand and it didn't work then. It is working now but I believe there are still problems with the digitizer not reading my touch.

Cait,
When you're in Recovery mode, you use the Volume rocker to navigate and the Power button (not the Home button) to select an item.

Okay, now my situation is exactly the same like what you had mentioned in the first line, which is the screen is totally black but the others are still working. I couldn't do anything with the blacken screen. I tried to pull out the battery and restart it but it is still the same. What should I do now? I accidentally fell it just now, after that my phone becomes like that, does it mean that I can't do anything anymore??? I'm so worried.... Help....

I'm not sure what you mean by "the others are still working"...
If you dropped your phone and the screen is always black (when you boot; when receiving a phone call; etc) then you're going to need a new touch screen/LCD.
If that's not what's happening then try to be more specific.

So many questions could be literally answered by just reading a couple of pages back to the huge list I posted to solutions of issues. :p

Ladies and gentleman the LCD needs to be replaced if the LCD won't turn on or is plain blank but yet the phone turns on.

Methods of help below.

Category A: If LCD randomly stopped working with no damage you did to device:

1. Call samsung to have it fixed with their one year warranty. You must be within one year warranty period. It must not have a cracked screen or water damage or such. This one is free of cost ig you are covered within the one year and meet.their requirements.

2. Have LCD replaced by Samsung (if out of warranty you will pay) or a local repair store with the cost of paying.

3. Replaced the lcd housing yourself by ordering the part. For example here is a link to a sprint s3 lcd housing that goes for $140!

4. Optional step: It is possible your LCD flex cable became loose. Look up how to open your device and then gently unplug the LCD flex and reconnect it.

Category B: If lCD works but phone no longer respond to touch function.

1. You could try getting Samsung to repair it since chances are they won't bother checking for digitizer damage since they would have to remove the glass and that could easy be deemed that they damaged it during removal of glass.

2. Pay Samsung to repair it. Or pay someone to replace it but if you will be paying someone to repair it please note it is better to do it yourself using option 3 under category B

3. Go on ebay, amazon, or any site you prefer and buy the LCD housing part for your model and an exchangeable unit part that works for your model (research this).

For example here is a link to a sprint s3 lcd housing that goes for $140!

Category C: glass is cracked but everything else functions?!

You have many choices here...

1: pay samsung to replaced the glass.

2: file an insurance claim if you have device protection.

2: You can pay a local repair store to replace the glass for you but make sure they do the job properly and offer a warranty as some people do a poor job!

3. You can replace the glass yourself.. please note that by getting glass replaced it won't feel the same as original.

Go on ebay or any other site and buy the following:

*Samsung galaxy s3 glass replacement
* Heat gun (or you can use a hair dryer).
* an IR temp reader
* tools to take apart your device
* there is other items you will need but I can't recall but you will need double sided tape to boarder up the process. Do research!

watch this video for the process

4: Buy an LCD housing to get it all over with and enjoy original real glass feeling without random loss of touch function.

For example here is a link to a sprint s3 lcd housing that goes for $140!

I hope this helps you all with what to expect with issues involving the LCD/glass area. :-)

please help

Eisa,
Was your phone rooted? I can't think of a way that you could delete system files, which is what it sounds like you did.
Can you provide a link to the app that you used to start all of this madness?
I suppose it's possible that this app deleted all of the wallpapers that are normally used and for some reason the system is defaulting to a black background, but the normal icons should still show up in the foreground.

Since a Factory Reset didn't solve your problem I'd suggest using the Kies software on your PC to reload the correct firmware. It's pretty straightforward to do but if you need help just holler.

Help

Hey guys. I tried to do a factory reset on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) and reboot it and everything last night around 3AM. but ever since i pressed the option to do a factory reset, it has only been showing the white page of "T-Mobile 4G LTE" when the phone is still loading. I have not been able to actually use my phone because it won't go anywhere past that loading page.. what can i do? I have backed everything up with Kies but i won't be able to actually restore my phone because my phone isn't working. please help!

Your LCD is defective. Have you had the device less than a year (USA warranty) and in the USA? You can contact Samsung and they'll send you a shipping label to print to send them the phone for free repair. If you have att in the USA or other carriers you can call them too to see if they honor the 1 year warranty from defects. I know att does for free and T-Mobile does as well but for a charge. :)

Try this, remove battery and put back in then press and hold the power button, vol up, and home button at the same time to get into the recovery mode to perform a factory reset. If that doesn't work I'll get you a link to reset the phone via Odin. :)

Edit: just in case here is a link to go to stock again using Odin which should fix your issue if recovery option doesn't. Just skip the unroot your phone section and go to step one section. :)

ceepagoda,
Or, since you're already familiar with Kies, just put your phone in Download mode (with the phone completely off, press and hold the Volume Down and Home and Power buttons simultaneously, and release them all when you see the splash screen) and reload the correct firmware using Kies - select Tools -> Emergency firmware recovery. It'll prompt you for the model number and IMEI (both found under the battery; be sure to enter the model number in CAPS) and it'll take care of downloading the correct firmware for your model/carrier.

Hey,
Sorry to jump in, but I am having an issue with my Galaxy S3 where the screen is just black. It seems to be responding to my touch and the sound is working fine, but the screen is just black. I have tried pulling out my battery and reseting the phone but not joy.
Thank you for your help.
