Galaxy S4: kitkat 4.4.2 is a horrible update

Not surprised with Samsung and the carriers who tamper with the software/firmware...

I just removed the a RAM manager (Clean Master) from my Verizon S4 and now for the first time in a week since I updated to 4.4.2 my phone is not hot to the touch. It has to be something to do with the bloatware Samsung and/or Verizon added to the update because my Nexus 7 with 4.4.2 works great with Clean Master and regardless what has been said about the memory managers on Android, the Nexus 7 "feels" noticeably faster when memory usage gets above 80% and I clean out the memory. At this point I'm just glad my phone isn't hot anymore. I also took the advice to go to "Maps" settings and cleared data and cache, but that didn't stop the phone from being hot. Once I uninstalled the memory manager the phone started cooling off. Until I see in the stock battery monitor that "Screen" is using more power than "Android System" I won't know if this is resolved or not. Getting one day of battery use when I used to get three is maddening.

its acutally good news that your battery monitor is now showing you that your Screen is using more power than Android System! It means that your battery drains due to the Screen usage (when you use your phone) which is normal

So you uninstalled Clean master on your phone? Anything else? I love that app. Not having it is going to be hard.

I've been able to put it off since release but I'm starting to think it's about time to just do it. I'm wondering if there's just as many good experiences as not so good you know?! Thank you.

My feeling "if it ain't broken don't fix it" that would be for me. My S4 is 99.99% perfect using 4.3 Jelly bean. 1% is battery gets hottest @ 95-100 degrees that's doing heavy browsing, I can live with it, battery last most all day. Everything perfect.
from experience having a android tablet I have seen it when firmware updates come out that when one or several persons tablet will be OK, when some will not, so Google comes out with fixes and the fix may solve the ones having problems, then one not having problems download the fix, screws up their tablets. Not her words there may never be a perfect fix.but my Jelly bean is almost perfect. And keeping it, 3rd week on refusing Kitkat.

Has anyone actually had any luck with this update?

Sure. Me, for instance. And lots of people. One thing you have to remember is that by definition people run to forums to complain about problems. The zillions of people who have no problems, unless they are regular members, are pretty much silent. They don't rush to the forum to say "gee, nothing changed." ;)

The only real issue I had with KK was the change in how SD cards were handled. That's not a bug--it is supposedly a feature for security.

In any event, I have 0 problems otherwise.

Cool, I think I'm gonna do it!

I woke up today and took my phone out of airplane mode, pop up like every morning asked me to install the update, like always I said latter/canceled/OK. Got in my car, plugged to charge phone in car, looked at screen, and there it was, downloading the installment of the update on it's own.
I don't want it. Where does the update download hiding, can it be deleted? How if it can be deleted?
If can't be deleted, does the update download ask me the next day to install it, just like it has been to asking for the passed 3 weeks to install it? Thanks guys for any suggestions.
I don't want Kitkat for all the tea in China.

Please help! ! I am using the I337m(Canadian) model and since I updated from 4.2 my screen has been a complete mess(colors everywhere)! The display is terrible but everything else is OK. . Any ideas?

I was so paranoid of doing I\it called VZ and then Samsung to make sure if it bricked my phone they would fix it no charge.
So I did it after they gave me assurance they would (my situation). Glad I did seems I have the new high speed towers in my area and my phone is much faster, less memory being hogged by the system. Battery seems normal for me so far. No heating up problem. All smiles here, fingers crossed. Foxfi is fine etc.

Ok so I did the update and I have to say I'm very pleased. So far no problems. Battery life same or better. I did notice significant improvement of the screen resolution or clarity. Overall faster response. Battery icon still turns yellow and red. Glad I did it. Thanks for your inputs.
