Galaxy S4 Random Vibrate?

I've had my GS4 for about 2 weeks now. Great phone and lots of cool options to play around with. One thing I noticed is that every once in a while when I pick up the phone after it has been sitting idle, with the screen off, as I pick it up it vibrates. I have the volume off. I have all the haptic feedback off. I have the vibrate off. I can't seem to find the culprit here. I try to duplicate it, but I can't. Anyone else having this issue?

It's Smart Alert letting you know you have an email, text, vm, missed call, etc.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Android Central Forums

Got it...for those who need to know...go in to the motion control setting and turn off the smart alerts.

EDIT: Resolved Problem
This issue was caused by Widget Calculator + Log from VETAL (when enabling vibration on widget)

Have you resolved this issue?
I'm personally on T-Mobile but have been doing a ton of googling/reading on this.
I don't know if we're having the same problem, but here's mine...

Phone recently started vibrating at random. Vibrations are quick 1/2 second bursts every minute or so.
This happens regardless of the phone being used or asleep (locked). T-Mobile had me reset to factory settings (wiping phone).
Still continues to vibrate, though now a bit more sporadically. This has NOT occurred in the other two GS4's my family has.

After doing a bunch of research, turning off all "Smart" features, clearing cache from Recovery Mode boot, etc. - still no luck.
It seems MY particular problem is Android-wide, regardless of device or provider (though seems very prevalent in Galaxy line).
Some speculation is that this is resulting from a background force-close of misbehaving app or creation of a bug report - all behind the scenes & inaccessible w/o root.

Tomorrow I should be exchanging my phone at T-Mobile in hopes that it is hardware-based and simply a defective device. (Wish me luck)

@ BassSoLow

I don't have that option under Motion Controls. I looked all over the settings and didn't see an option for Smart Alerts.

@ Dave Hollander

Don't bother exchanging it just cause of the random vibrations. Mine does that also. I am on my second S4 since my first one was kinda flaky, and both ones I've had do the random vibration thing. Also I work for a cell provider and sell the S4 a lot, and I have come across this with phones that I sell as well if I am handling them long enough.

So exchanging your phone isn't going to make the issue go away.

Settings -> My Device -> Motions and gestures -> Air gesture -> Motion

Smart alert is 2nd in the list.

This is weird, I just noticed this random vibration with my phone this morning as well. My phone is idle and I can't find any reason as to why it is vibration randomly all of a sudden.

Well, seems like an app was causing this, my Onavo Extend app. Whenever I disconnect from wifi at work the onavo app kicks in and it'll vibrate. So any random vibrating is most likely caused by an app.

I must have a quirky phone too. Mine just jumps to vibrate mode on its own. I can have it on at full volume....pick it up 30 minutes late because i havent heard any alerts and find the phone is in vibrate mode. I would like this to quit.

I'm experiencing the same thing. After turning off smart alert, the vibrate goes off too so I guess this must be the cause.

Guess Samsung fall short of what are the missed messages or call that might trigger this vibration. For my case, I'm on roaming with data turn off and that trigger the alert :)

Another option I found is different from the others I saw here, so I'll let you know.
The pathway is this: Settings -> Accesibility -> Uncheck Notification reminder.
It happens that you have unseen messages/notifications from the mobile itself or Facebook, Whatsapp etc and that option is seeing unseen things from all apps you have installed.

My s4 was vibrating too and what I did is in app settings, I deleted all Facebook data and it stopped vibrating. Unbelievable I think I found the problem
