galaxy s5 camera lens cracked

The case doesn't help; this appears to be a stress fracture issue; possibly related to the waterproofing. You may have read some of the articles concerning the issues encountered by Samsung's subcontractors in producing the lens assemblies. It appears to have carried over to the final product, since there are many instances reported where the lens fractures withi days or even hours of purchase, even within a case and without impact. Waiting to see if Samsung steps up on this, or hides and hopes it goes away. A great phone with an issue that Samsung needs to address.

i realised after a few days that I had a crack on my camera screen aswell, and after reading all these comments I'm assuming that the camera screen is faulty. They got the design wrong

Well, I've got a broken lens too. I did drop the phone on the pavement, so I can't exactly complain. Rest of the phone is fine though, it hit on the outer silver bezel on its side, there's a bit of scraping on two corners, no damage anywhere else, and then the shattered back lens. I'm not even sure the lens hit the ground, and I'm not sure it broke immediately. After I picked up the phone I checked for damage and just found the scratched bezel, I think the lens broke later in my pocket or something.

Got a nice little glass shard in my finger, which was fun. Luckily I happened to be at the doctor's office, so he fixed it.

So, what are the repair options? I see the lens replacement for around $8 online and then DIY, which I feel like I can certainly manage, but I'm a bit worried about whether it will still be water proof (not that I plan on testing the waterproof anyway, but still). You can send to Samsung for $70 and 2 weeks or so? I was looking for a replacement bezel and found two options for that, one of which actually includes the camera lens. For about $15 I can get just the bezel and fix that little blemish, or there's this option for $25, which is the entire bezel and a bunch of attached pieces, including buttons and lenses and stuff, it's all one piece apparently.

I assume you then have to swap the rest of the components over or something, it's hard to tell exactly.

What are people doing for repairs for this? I need to do something relatively quickly, because I currently have painters tape on the back of my phone to keep from cutting myself.

Yes I had mine about 30 days and it just cracked. I never dropped it or anything, it just cracked. Call Samsung and they said not covered

They did fix it they came out with the galaxy f... They'll just figure you'll buy the new model.

I have a galaxy s5 in a otter case and I dropped it from about 3 feet and the len cracked to get a replacement it would cost me two hundred dollars

I'll add my name to the list of S5s with a cracked lens cover. The design of the camera lens (protruding from the back) coupled with what is obviously (now that it is broken I can see how thin the glass is) flimsy material is a real issue here. Unfortunately, since the phone was dropped, the manufacturer's warranty is voided and we will have to pay for the replacement lens cover. A real hassle. This will be my last Samsung phone, and I or my direct family members have owned the Galaxy Nexus, S4, and two S5s. I hope Samsung will realize that this really is a design issue. I hope that people who have had this happen to their S5 will speak up and be heard.

Bought the part from witrigs.com. works great. Took me maybe 10 minutes to fix and now the camera is perfect.

Which part did you end up buying from Witrigs.com? The Mid-fram assembly? Did the fix require the removal of the screen?

Got the ring glass and tape. Didn't require removal of anything but the rear camera frame and glass with the felt below the glass. Blew it out with. Canned air and that was it.

I had the same issue and my S5 has been in its OtterBox since I bought the phone. Now the lense for camera is shattered but I didnt even drop the phone

So, even with having insurance through sprint, wouldn't make any difference? I've had my phone for 2 months. And just the other day I notices the glass screen cracked. That Morning before heading to work, I snapped a pic of the sky. I'm a Fixedgear commuter and have a pouch on the shoulder strap of my messenger bag. Got to work, and wanted to snap a pic of my bike. Notice on the screen other looked blurry. Just when I was gonna wipe the camera lens notice it was cracked. During that 30min ride to work I haven't dropped it. I snap pic daily and this bummed me. Could I get a replacement phone with the insurance I have through sprint?

Yes, but it'll cost you a fee

Yeah. I went to sprint today, the lady that stands by the door asked What I needed help with. Asked her if my insurance covers this and showed her the cracked camera glass. She took my phone and asked the tech guys. 10Mins later she came back and told me to call and make a claim. So I did. And all it repeats was to go to phoneclaim.com. so did that and made the claim. I think it was the second to the Last step. Payment method. Then boom $200 for a replacement phone. Out of my budget and will have to wait.

Don't pay for the insurance claim. Send it to Samsung and pay for the $70 repair. Complain to the call center representative about it, but don't get angry with them. They cannot, and will not, do anything for you once it gets there, other than inspect the phone, say it's your fault, and charge you $70. You don't pay for shipping either way, and you get your original phone back, not someone else's re-manufactured phone. I just went through this. Phone was fine, went into my wife's purse (in it's own debris fee pocket) and came out with a piece of glass missing out of the center of the camera cover lens (It looked like a pressure fracture). Purse was not dropped, just placed in my wife's car.... We had this phone for all of 1 month when this happened, and it lived in an Otterbox Commuter since leaving Best Buy. Probably won't be buying another Samsung either because of this.

Hope others have better luck than me.

Steve

soooo, after all of this.

My camera will not take pics that are focused.
So, sprint is replacing it with a new phone.

I guess this is a known issue as well.

BTW, this sprint store i went to is sending out the phones to be repaired with broken lenses, as long as the phone itself does not look damaged. They know it is an issue

Would it even TRY to focus? I just replaced my glass and now it doesn't even do the focus motions. It just sits there blurry.

Does anyone know if replacing the glass would void the warranty since you're not actually getting into the phone?

I have the same problem on a phone less than a week old. Pissed they will not replace it, never dropped, I had a defender case but couldn't deal with the water mark on the screen from the screen protector.

I just ordered a couple of middle bezels, figured I would need a spare :(. Is the middle bezel easy to replace? The youtube showing lense replacement had the bezel out, so I guess it's easy enough?

Thanks
