Quite doubtful. What would be their motivation to help people transition to another OS?

Same here I have people changed their settings etc and some still cant get thru to me! Such a PIA. If my buddy turned off his imessage it went thru but once he turned it back on even with send as sms checked on it wont go thru. Holy frustrating.

I gave up on the phone 5s, just got the S5 yesterday, couldn't sleep because i couldn't get text messages from iPhone users.
I read online about the sender should turn their iMessage off. It sounded pretty retarted to me, because 90% of my friends, family and coworkers use the iPhone.
And you can't tell them "please turn off your iMessage so I can get your text".

I called Att thus Apple and told them to deregister my phone number from iMessage. It was easy. But it may take 24 to 48 hours.

Part of a previous post from Xm_jdm was enough to work for me:

I went to my handed-down-to-my-hubby iPad2 (I now use a Galaxy Tab3 7 inch) and turned off facetime and imessage. Then on my awesome S5 texted Stop to 48369. Got a reply (from Apple I assume). Then did a group-sent text to 6 people I interact with who all are iPhone users. Their txt replies came in as regular txt rather than having to 'download' as had to on both my S3 and S5. So happy!

Lucky! I tried that. The iPhone was the only iOS device I had and that STILL didn't work! Apple really hates me!

There has to be something we are missing because I started receiving messages 24 hours after I did everything I mentioned in post 26. I haven't had any issues since then.

I have a case # with Apple so I will call back when I feel like wasting some more time...

I recently switched from iphone as well...even after turning imessage off it still did not work....I used to work for Apple so I texted STOP to 48369 and received a message back stating that my number has been removed from apples servers.

Did that 2 or 3 times and get the same message, still not getting texts from iPhones

I had this problem too, sent a text to all my friends with iPhones and told them to delete our ongoing conversation, once they did this their texts came through fine. A bit of a pain but easiest solution.

Thanks Wookiee! Did you have your friends delete all your contact info and re-enter it too?

You have to remove yourself from iMessage by calling into apple support and asking them to remove your number from iMessage.

I had the same issue and went weeks with the problem. It made me swear to never buy an apple product again because that's how apple locks you in. Anyways, I finally had to give up the fight and had to change my phone number. I was not impressed with the way Apple treated the entire situation. That was their solution to...."well if you need it that bad, then you may just want to change your number". I will never buy another Apple product again.

And that can still take up to 72 hours.....I used to work for Apple and it used to be a mess!

Nope, just delete the text conversation. By that I mean open the text app to where they see everyone they have been texting with, hit the edit button, scroll down to your name/conversation, hit the hash mark and select delete. Once my friends and family did this everything came thru just fine, a friend of mine had this issue too and when I posted a message on facebook to let other friends know, she responded back that it fixed her issue as well (she had been dealing with it for a few weeks and was getting pretty frustrated). I understand this is a nice feature for Apple users but it's a serious pain trying to figure out the issue once you leave Apple devices. Others have posted that on the iPhone you can to into settings-messages and turn off iMessages and also select send as text (or something like that) but I still had issues when doing this, deleting the conversation history seemed to fix everything... for me and my friend anyways.

So Im going on 3 weeks now without being able to reliably get text from others in my family and friends that had previously sent me iMessages. Been round and round with AT&T and Apple. Still not working. The last Apple support tech told me that it is a client issue on the other end, so my friends and family, and that they need to update their iOS to 7.1.1 and then delete the text thread. So I've done that to 3 iPhones, guess what? IT DID NOT WORK. The worst part is they show as the message being delivered. But delivered where? I do not have iMessage or Facetime activated anywhere. I have removed my number for every possible place in Apple's systems. I have changed my e-mail address everywhere in Apple's systems. This is a seriously broken system.
