Galaxy S5: How's everyone's battery life so far?

My device is not giving me good battery life at all. I have been off the charger for 3 hours and 49 minutes and I am down to 39% already. I am beginning to think my device is defective !

I doubt it is the firmware or the battery.

You have some apps talking through the network a lot.
If you are in a weak signal area, the radio transmitter has to increase the transmit power so the cell site can hear it. That takes more battery power.

Rouge apps that keeping "calling home to moma" really suck up a lot of power.

Amazon Suites is the single worst app I have run into in that regard.

I turned OFF all the bloatware and a lot of OEM apps. My phone is Verizon, if you aren't Verizon, some of these won't be on your phone.

I have turned off the following on a Verizon phone:
Accessories, Amazon, Amazon App suite, Amazon Kindle, Amazon MP3, Appstore, Audible, BlurbCheckout, Bubbles, FamilyBase Companion, Flipboard, Message+, Messages, MyMagazine, NFL Mobile, Picasa Uploader, S Health, Smart Remote, Travel Wallpaper, Verizon Support & Protection (McAfee), VZ Navigator (pay for fee Navigation.... Google maps is free)

Google branded that I turned
OFF:

Calendar Sync, Contacts Sync, Play Games, Play Movies & TV, Play Music, Play Newstand, Hangouts, Isis Mobile Wallet

After I trimmed all that fat off the phone, the battery drain immediately improved a lot. Even with GPS and DATA left on.

best time since i bought it 😊

Don't just look at the display numbers. The phone has been running on the battery for nearly 23 hours so in reality the battery life is great.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Verizon)

Looking at on screen time is how you determine the battery life is good. Idling a phone you can idle for days.

I've been really happy with mine. I've waited to comment on battery life until I'd actually used the phone enough to really say. It's been a little over a month now. Yesterday when I put my phone on the charger it was at 43% after over 20 hours, and over 4 hours of screen time. I keep wifi and data on (wifi when I have a wifi connection; data othertimes. I don't turn wifi off when leaving the house/leaving a wifi area) and I do have data sync on so that I get push email notifications. Location is set to the middle setting (not GPS only but not the one that is labeled as "most accurate"). Brightness is on auto. I have the weather app updating every 6 hours but I occasionally update it in between.

I find I get better battery life when at my friend's place; I think because I have better RF here. At my place I have decent RF but not as good, and I think that affects the battery life. Still, when at home I haven't had any instances of having to put it on the charger mid-day, and I do use my phone quite frequently. I am in the habit of putting my phone on the charger every night so I'm happy with about 17 hours of battery life with my usage (it's usually between 23 and 35% when I put it on the charger; I know from one time I forgot my charger somewhere that if absolutely needed UPS would tide me over at least until the next night).

I'm wondering what apps and things do you do on your phone with WiFi and data on all day? Do you mean that you leave both WiFi and data on at the same time or one at a time?

Just leave everything turned on all the time, most folks do.

I don't, but that's just me.

The WiFi radio receiver does not use enough power to even be noticeable. So don't worry about it being left on.

If you don't make a WiFi connection, it isn't going to be using very much juice.

My Battery usage at first really sucked the first week but it has some how gotten better I mean really better like almost a day and a half, here hoping it stays this way.

When you say you turn Off the bloatware are you uninstalling them or hiding them? With my GS3 I used Titanium back up to disable or "freeze" the apps I didn't use but my phone was rooted. My GS5 isnt rooted so not sure how you "turn off" the apps.

I figured it out. :-)

I'm wondering what apps and things do you do on your phone with WiFi and data on all day? Do you mean that you leave both WiFi and data on at the same time or one at a time?

I leave both on at the same time, so if my wifi connection drops it'll seamlessly switch over to data (or if wifi becomes available it'll switch to wifi). I don't have it constantly scanning for networks, though (there's an option to scan for networks and alert you when an unsecured one is available; I have that turned off). It's only actually using one at a time, as far as I know. So, if I'm home and have wifi connected, but then run out to do errands I'll then be using data, but when I get home it automatically re-connects to my wifi network without my toggling any of the controls (not that that would be hard or anything, it's just convenient for me to leave it this way right now).

My main data/wifi using apps are email (I have push email turned on) and calendar (two-way sync for calendar), Words With Friends, Chrome, MyFitnessPal, and weather. I do use other ones that use data, but those are the ones I use frequently throughout the day.

I just got my phone on sat and have been getting the phone set up to my liking so have been playing with it I play derr hunter 2014 and clash of clash from time to time. How does this look is it average under than average I have been seeing better times from you guys in previous posts. Any advice of what I can do to make it better? I will stress and stress until my brain fries until I find the best option so any help is great Thanks

My battery life is amazing

Picked up my GS5 (Verizon) on wednesday and of course the first day it died quickly (time flies when you're having fun with a new phone). But now after having the device for three days and having everything set up after the first day, the battery still crashed quickly. Last night it was so bad that I went ahead and did a factory reset just to clear unnecessary apps that I had downloaded out of curiosity. After doing so, I set up the accounts and few apps i know i'd want on there (spotify and Facebook...so far) But yet...my results today...

blutooth is off, 2 email accounts are set to fetch every 2 hours, air view/browse/smartstay OFF, display brightness on auto, screen time out at 1 minute...
I've taken every precaution I can think of to maintain a good charge thru the day without drainage, yet I'm at 49% now and not even 3 hours on battery...

any suggestions would be great. I'm going to try JuiceDefender because I'm all out of other ideas.

Juice Defender is good although I like Green Power even better. That's after I tried both intermittently for a few days. Either will dramatically help you.
