Galaxy S5 Needs more RAM.

The GN3 has roughly 2.7GB of available RAM, mine will typically be using about 2.3GB, later versions of Android are very good at RAM management, it will use what is available, and free it up when needed. You will actually slow things down, and decrease battery life, if you're constantly trying to clear it manually, if you aren't experiencing lag issues, best to ignore it and leave it alone

Yes I hear something like this recently, it's better to keep apps open when you know you will use them later, than to keep closing them every second

I noticed my RAM is always at 75%+ full even with all processes stopped. I'm surprised they didn't add more memory when the OS processes require the majority of it. Just 1GB more would be nice. I'm closing apps regularly to ensure I don't max out, and I haven't experienced any lag issues. I guess I could try to overload it and see what happens. I don't mean to complain, I am just pointing out my thoughts. I still love the phone.

Here is my RAM after using HBO Go to send GoT to my Chromecast. I tried to stop the show when it was over and the phone was unresponsive.

Even after clearing RAM with the fast reboot app, I have like 500mb free

I was in the "no more RAM needed" camp until yesterday. This phone (for me) stutters a lot, especially when opening messaging and sending a text. After I close all apps via the task manager it's a little better. My Note 3 doesn't have any issues like this at all. I think with all the features/TouchWiz Samsung packs in, they need to bump it up to 3GB. I'd be curious how much free RAM a GPE S5 would have.

Even when I clear my apps most of the RAM is full. I haven't noticed any lag issues/stuttering with my phone. Granted I tend to clear my apps frequently so that could be why?

Edited to add: After loading all of my apps onto the phone and a week of use it's been pretty stuttery/laggy. If I have a few apps open and go to Facebook its horribly choppy. Same with reading a website on Chrome it will randomly lag and not smoothly scroll. Needless to say I ended up returning the phone.

I HATE IT
It's RAM is always 66%+ full with no apps at all :S
I got it 2 days ago and I did a hard reset because of the performance

It lags and it lags A LOT with my normal apps running

before it I had Galaxy S2 and I thought that I would be amazed by the performance difference

Seriously I can't imagine how my daily use will look like with such performance

I regret that I didn't get Nexus 5 or anything else :(

Perhaps the GN4 will get 4GB of RAM and the S6 next year will bump up to 3GB of RAM. That would be nice.

This is the problem with the S series, I hate that they charge premium for it but treat it like mid because their focus is on the Note which I love/prefer.

Exactly my point.

After I deleted all the bloatware from my Note 2 I usually had 800MB-1GB of ram always available ,now with the S5 after the bloatware was terminated i have around 550-400MB of ram always available ,that's just depressing.
Why didn't they put more ram in this thing :'(

You have to understand how Linux works with memory. As long as you keep the S5 around 100MB or more of RAM you are good. I do agree that it should have 4GB instead of 2GB but it really should not be a problem. Also, I highly recommend using Fast Reboot pro. It is inexpensive and I have it stop all the apps accept the ones oon my exclude list when the phone is unlocked. You can also configure it to stop programs except the ones on your exclude list with you lock your phone, unlock your phone, and time intervals such as every 2 hours. These program will keep your RAM free,]

If you end up rooting your phone then use Titanium Plus and Autostart to stop unnecessary programs from running and freezing any bloatware/crapware.

If you use these programs properly it is like having twice as much RAM.]

Of course the real question is: Is your phone slowing down on you? If not then you have no problem and I would highly recommend reading about how Linux.and Android uses memory. It is a different way than from Windows so the amount of free RAM does not matter as much as long as you keep a little bit free.

I agree with the op,this is exactly why I won't purchase this phone, it has the same ram as my gs3 and I hate when I have like 10 apps open, the go back to one of the first apps I was using, just to find out that I'm no longer where I was before because of ram limitations.

The GS3 only comes with 1 gig of ram. Perhaps you mean the GN3?

Thank you so much for recommending Fast Boot Pro. It's AWESOME and frees up RAM on my S5 dramatically. I'll clear all my apps and then use it and I will have more than half my RAM free. 0.89Gb/1.81Gb!!!!!!!! This is the answer to this. It doesn't even reboot your phone, just the processes. It takes literally 5 seconds to use. I couldn't be happier right now. Lol.

do you mean fast reboot pro?

I have 386mb available. I use the app "All-In-One Toolbox" and it will shut down some processes that will bring my free RAM up to 800mb. I haven't noticed my phone lagging in any way. I highly recommend this app. I have used it for a couple years now.

How much RAM does everyone have available?

Yes I did. I don't have any lag and don't tend to multitask 20 things at once on my phone like I do my laptop but for those people that load a ton of apps and like everything to be running then Fast Reboot Pro lets you reboot those pesky services that startup and was well worth the buck I paid for it when it first came out,

I don't know the current price but it is FAST REBOOT PRO. I would highly recommend people read the article on how Android uses RAM though. People are used to Microsoft using the hard drive as virtual RAM while Android does not utilize memory in the same way.

Also, my S3 has 2GB of RAM and DUAL Core. I believe you either got a quad core with 1GB of RAM or a DUAL core with 2GB of RAM. At first it was the US version only but I have seen many S3s with 1GB purchased from US carriers.

S3 LTE has 2gb Ram and is Quad core.

My s5 is laggy as hell, always freezing, Ive been trying the whole "let it fill up the memory its better" thing, well from what I can see about Android being great at managing memory, its not, its so much slower than my s3 LTE. The s5 needs more Ram.

My S4 was always fine with 2GB of Ram. Of course I'm not complaining about the 3GB in my note 3.
