As others in that thread told you and proved with their own shots, you got a bad phone. My pictures are razor sharp and nothing like yours.
I don't know why people will condemn a phone or a camera because they obviously got a poor sample. Showing pictures from other S5's should prove that. I have a G2 and the S5 pix are better.

I think it's the pedometer. My step count goes up when the phone is shaken and rattles. Open the camera and shake and the rattle stops, but so does the step count. Presumably it assumes you're standing still while taking photos and not logging any steps.

I notice the rattle if I shake the phone pretty hard but there is no rattle when you open the camera like others have said

I just shook my 3 year old Evo 3D and heard it..FOR THE FIRST TIME
Never thought to do it and never noticed in in 3 years. That really just made me lol
Edit: It's also around the camera area on that phone.

The rattle is the shutter in the camera. Normal. Some devices might have a more noticeable rattle, but all normal.

Guys, you need a moving ball/piston for a functioning pedometer. This is exactly what that noise is and every pedometer has it.

AFAIK there is no sensor "ball." your steps are measures using the built-in solid-state accelerometers in the unit. These have internal components which are VERY small and they are not deflecting far enough to generate an audible noise, even if something had broken inside the accelerometer IC's. The whole package, including the ceramic and plastic casings, is only 3x3mm.
I tend to agree with other posters. The only part that really makes any sense here is the moving portion of the camera.

Could this be a manufacturing issue? My phone rattles when gently shook and when I need to type/tap the top portion of the screen (camera off). Interestingly the rattling goes away when the camera is turned on/activated after some experimenting. I'm debating whether if this a normal issue (Samsung support rep told me "it's normal") or if I should contact Samsung/T-Mobile (my carrier) support to investigate if it's a manufacturing issue. I preferably want to do it within their timeframe for claiming this "issue" in regards to the warranty as I do not want to send the phone in, get a temp replacement, and then get my original phone back with a service bill with the msg "nothing is/was wrong, pay service fee, and send replacement phone back." I'm going to wait a couple more days to see if there is any advice/info that pops up on the web. If not, T-Mobile support here I come.

I'd rather have something in writing from Samsung or T-mobile so I know not to waste my time sending it in for a possible manufacturing issue. Thanks for the input though.

The Motorola Droid Maxx did this. Tons of people here say its normal. Other phones I'm sure have done it. Heck, it stops when you activate the camera which is also mentioned in this same thread.
There's no reason to stress over this. I can promise you that its normal. There's no reason to worry. I'm one of the most picky people in the world. A rattle, creak, scratch, whatever will drive me nuts if its abnormal. I played with the S5 and it did it. I'm also sure the one I get this week will rattle and I'll just let it go.

I received my S5 on release day in the UK. No rattle.
Yesterday at work the screen froze and the back started to get very warm.
Phone became non responsive so I pulled the battery.
I put the battery back in but the phone would not turn on. It was completely dead.
I called my network and they ran through all the usual and are now sending a replacement.
Last night when taking out my sim and boxing up my phone for exchange I thought I'd try turn it on again. And it magically turned on.
It now has a rattle.
To me there is something wrong so I will proceed with the replacement.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I think I read it wrong. Are you doing an in store replacement? If so, it will be new. I missed the boxing up part initially. I was thinking you called customer care and they were sending another unit which at this stage would be new but I'd want it in a box.

Ordered by phone so he asked me to keep sum and box up for exchange. Very weird how it would not turn on for hours and now has a rattle. No one else seems to have complained
To be fair to Three mobile. They credited me a week of my monthly charge and when I called them up to say it's turned back on so they can reverse the credit they told me not to worry about the credit and for me to still replace my handset because something is clearly wrong with it. Great customer service.
