Galaxy S5 Verizon Pre-Order Thread

So did anyone (other than layla616) who ordered after the 4th get a tracking number today?

Hi guys, I pre-ordered on 4/4/2011 after 9:00 a.m. using Verizon Edge program. No tracking number or charges yet to my credit card and the Verizon rep on web chat said it was scheduled to be shipped on 4/11.

I also got a strange bulk email last night and not sure why - did anyone else receive an email like this?

Important Order Information:

Hi, I am in need of some opinions. We have a Verizon Family plan three lines. One line is unlimited data which contract is up in June, along with the second line which is just a basic phone. The third line is a 2g data smartphone and the contract is up. I was wondering if it would be better to get the bogo offer and add a line then cancel the other line in June? However, if I do this would it end my unlimited data? Any advice would be helpful.

You don't need to add on a new line to use the BOGO deal. I used it on 2 existing lines. They can't add you to an unlimited data plan. It's not in the system. You'll get a 6GB data plan instead at no extra charge.

I thought the bogo is a two year activation required per device?

I don't know. I'm still getting my two rebates on two different lines. One of the lines had its Upgrade Discount, and the other didn't. We took an upgrade off of another line and I signed the 2 year agreement. You shouldn't need a whole new line.

[Edit]
Here's is a confirmation email. I crossed out the numbers, but both lines have been active for about 6 years now.

Maybe some good news on my end (ordered Monday night), the IP tracking number has disappeared. Hopefully a step in the right direction.

Does the $30 6GB plan still work? Everything I saw indicated you need to be on the Edge plan to do it.

Yep I called right after I placed the order to confirm. The rep said said you have to add it after the lines are activated, but she even set a reminder in the system to call me back and add the $30 plans after I get the phones. I'm not going to rely on that as I will probably call within 5 minutes of activating just to get it done, but it seemed like they were used to doing it and it wasn't going to be a problem.

I'm buying the S5 at Costco's cell kiosk since they know a trick that can keep unlimited data. I did it for my wife about three months ago when I upgraded her from a Droid 4 to a S4 and got to keep the unlimited data and paid the upgrade cost, not full retail. I checked with the same employee that helped me with my wife's phone this past weekend and she assures me that she can do the trick on my phone/line to keep the unlimited data and get the S5 for $189. Just an FYI to some, you might want to inquire with the Costco kiosk people if they know the trick to upgrade and keep the unlimited data. I will be there at opening on Friday morning.

Mine also is going through now (ordered Sunday night) . Money was taken out of my account with no tracking number yet. Hope to have it by tomorrow, but that's extreme wishful thinking.

Glad to hear you got some movement as well. I'll just be happy to have it arrive Friday. Pretty sure I did two day shipping, but maybe they'll expedite it since it's taken them so long to get the wheels turning.

I ordered my phone on Sunday (4/6) at 10:45 pm (mountain time) on the phone. I received an email (at 2:10 mountain time) with a tracking number from FedEx today. Yesterday my status had changed from the fact that they had my order (that is what it showed since the day I placed my order) to VZW was processing my order and told me to check back today!!! It is expected to be delivered on FRIDAY!!!

I was also on an unlimited plan and the customer service rep told me that they are doing a promotion (which VZW has been doing for about a year now) for customers that were on an unlimited data plan. The promotion is called the Verizon Max plan where you get 6GB for $30 (other customers get 2GB for $30) on a nationwide plan only. You CANNOT get the Verizon Max on their new More Everything plans. Also, it still costs extra for a hotspot using the Verizon Max plan compared to free hotspot on the More Everything. This was VZW's way of trying to keep customers and letting them know they understood it was going to difficult to give up their unlimited data. He said that VZW has had such a positive response to this that it will be continuing for a while and he didn't really see an end date to this so-called promotion. FYI...if you ever switch to a More Everything Plan you also lose the Verizon Max of 6GB for $30 and there is no way to go back to that....this is what I was told my multiple CSR that I talked to on the phone.

Haha, I can't wait for it. My GNex is getting a little slow. The website says that it's free Overnight Shipping, so I'm wanting to go by that, but it wouldn't be a big deal.

I've been on my nationwide plan ever since I got my phone (additional line). And with the hotspot, there's always Foxfi and apps like that if you need it :P

I hear ya. I'm currently on a 2 year old Droid Razr Maxx; definitely time to upgrade. BTW, I think I read somewhere that Foxfi no longer works with KitKat?

I used it on my GNex running XenonHD Kit Kat last Thursday, but then again, it isn't stock so I'm not sure. I'm hoping it still works though. I use it almost every week xDD

Pre-ordered online on the 5th, got my tracking number at 9pm-ish on 04/09. Phone is in Memphis, TN to be delivered on Friday the 11th.
