Galaxy S6 Edge screen shuts off before I can even unlock it

This glitch with my phone has been driving me crazy! Whenever I try to turn on my screen pressing either the home or power buttons, 80% of the time the screen turns on and then quickly turns off, not recognizing any touch and not giving me any time to enter my passcode. Many times I have to press the buttons over and over again until the screen finally stays on and lets my type my passcode. Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated!

Welcome to AC!
How long has this issue been going on? And how long have you had the phone?

Thanks! (I just changed my username)

I've had the phone for about 4 months now and I'd say the issue started pretty early, maybe 1 month after I got it.

Ah, OK. Should have taken it in for a replacement when it started happening :P

Is it always an issue or does it only come up occasionally? Seems like it would make your phone unusable if it happened every time

Re: Galaxy S6 Edge screen shuts off before I can even unlock it

It's funny you mention that - I actually did replace my first Galaxy S6 Edge after it was lagging like crazy (much more than the one I have now). I would say the problem takes place actually about 60-80% of the time. It's super frustrating, but after about 4 clicks on and off, I'm able to enter my passcode. If there's absolutely no way to resolve this, I could take it in for another replacement or change my phone (it's a work phone).

Have you tried wiping the cache partition? With the phone off, hold power + home + volume up for a few seconds. Then use the volume buttons to scroll to "Wipe cache" and use power to select the options

I don't dare lock my edge plus anymore because the screen wouldn't stay open long enough to put the password in. Someone else got on his phone with Samsung and persisted patiently until somehow he unlocked it. Maybe he did what you suggested here.

Im experiencing same problem here with my samsung s6 edge. Its so annoying that everytime i try to put my password the screen will turn off .. did you already resolve your problem?

Re: Galaxy S6 Edge screen shuts off before I can even unlock it

I think it may be too late for the first person, but I was having this trouble too. I noticed though, this especially happened while I was using the phone at night in darker places. I'm not sure if this is the case for you on not, but the problem itself was the same. It would shut off before i could even unlock it. Under settings there is an option to keep the phone from turning off when in dark places such as pocket or whatever... It was on. Turned it off.... problem solved. Hope this helps.
