Galaxy S6 flexible PCB (FPCB) Antenna vs Galaxy S7 Qualcomm TruSignal Tech

Interested to see a signal comparison between the SD 820 and 8890 Exynos devices. I have my SD820 device arriving later today so I can provide some personal insight in comparison to my edge+.

Be good to see a comparison. My s7 edge dosent seem much differant to normal s6 signal wise . Il go out the area tommorrow and see what there both like

So with my s7 edge (SD820) is providing about -6dBm, better signal strength than my s6 edge+. Minor, but still something.

-6db gain is huge. That said, your method of measurement is likely far from scientific.

Take both phones to an area with poor signal and see if the S7 stays connected while the S6 drops out of service. I suspect you'll see both phones behave similarly.

My S7E on AT&T is terrible compared to my iPhone I came from, it's absolutely the worst. I even went on a trip about 4 hours away and on the drive my pandora stream stopped for minutes at a time when my wifes iPhone would still be fine. In my home, I have no signal at all. Yet my wife is still able to receive SMS/MMS(non iMessage) texts fine.

Sucks, went through this with the S6

I returned my first S7 due to extremely poor reception. I'm now on my second and have decided to go back to either HTC or Moto. Without a doubt I have never owned a phone with such poor cell reception. This was my first foray into Samsung and they have failed miserably.

I am guessing that nothing has changed antenna wise. I just bought the s7 and am having the same issue. I upgraded from the s4 to s7 and the reception difference is tremendous. After being on the phone with Verizon tech support and trying numerous things to no avail I ended up here. I love the new phone but hate this aspect of it. I stumbled across the advance calling, set it up and, if it wasn't for wifi calling, I wouldn't be able to receive nor call hardly at all. Very disappointed!

I have a Canadian carrier locked s7, so i beleive exynos.
So far its a bit better reception than my s4 was getting. It also holds onto a poor signal for longer than my s4 did. (I'm inside concrete and grounded metal buildings lots(faraday cage and cell phones don't work very good together).
Its signal strength is on par with my iphone6. The s7 does not hold onto signal as long as the iphone6 does, but very close.

Overall I'm very happy with my s7 signal strength. I was worried it would be like my s4 (declares no signal almost instantly).

Yes, I compared dBm, not just "bars". Mainly LTE comparison, but some 3G comparison as well

I haven't had any problem with reception yet. My S7 is working in places that my Moto X would not so I'm happy. I even downloaded the Lowe's app yesterday while standing in the middle of Lowe's with all that metal around me quick as can be. :)

I have yet to try it in the biggest trouble spot for me which was a total dead spot on my old phone. Will be interesting to see what the S7 does there.

Your S4 should have way better signal than the S7 based on the new Antenna tech. My S4 rocked, wish I hadn't sold it and got stuck with this new garage tech in the S6. If you are having the issues you are having it sounds more like carrier than antenna tech

Pretty much my exact experience by going to the S6 from the S4

I am almost in tears. I had Galaxy S and S3 on CSpire and Galaxy S5 and S6Edge on Verizon. ALL of them got perfect voice reception ALL the time. Then I got an Edge. Awesome phone, does everything but cook and clean. LOVED all the cool stuff it would do. Love the edge screens. LOVE the camera. But the main thing I have a phone for is to TALK on it when I need to.

The short version is that I complained to Verizon, I cried on the phone to CSRs, when I could get somewhere where I could actually talk. They heard the breakup. They saw it drop calls. I finally started calling from my work phone. They told me they had never heard of that issue, it had nothing to do with the network, it was the phone, and I needed to "send it to Samsung" to fix it. ?!!!!! Verizon. Replaced. This Phone. 7. Different. Times. I went in the stores. I sometimes did it over the internet. I did it over the phone. NOBODY would help me with a different phone.

I knew the issue was out there, but this thread is the first one where everybody, EVERYBODY is talking about the garbage voice reception.

It was such a bad experience with the phone and with Verizon, I finally gave up and switched to CSpire, and for the first time in my life, got an iPhone.

And let me tell you. The much-touted Apple iPhone 6S is NOT EVEN IN THE SAME LEAGUE as the Galaxy S6Edge. EXCEPT. That I can talk on it whenever I want to. But guess what! Now my texts don't go through unless I have data! Whattttt?!!!

I am phone-cursed. But if the 7 has decent voice reception this time, I am going back to Samsung and Android. I ain't no iPhone girl.

Sorry you had to go through all of that. Not the same comparison, but a friend switched from a Note 3 to Iphone 6S & is now constantly dropping calls. The N3 would get static & so forth while the 6S just dumps the call. Will be interested to see if you get a S7 variant how it compares.

I've noticed my S7 to have poor reception in comparison to my Lumia 920. I thought maybe it was just coincidence...maybe it's not.
