I would like to play videos from my GS7E to my 60" Vizio TV but it looks like I need something like Chromecast to do so. Does any one here use Chromecast and will it even do what I want? I would probably keep my videos in a cloud file like Dropbox and call them up to play on to the TV. Any suggestions, ideas or words of wisdom?

I have one... works great. Easy to set up and they are dirt cheap. And it'll do exactly what you are asking. We actually use Google Photos for all our pictures and videos and the Google Photos app will stream pics ans movies straight from the app. A ton of apps support Google Cast as well, so you'll be able to do more than just play your recorded videos.

Can you cast anything on your phone such as videos in Dropbox or do I need an app like Google Cast to do it? I don't see Dropbox on the compatible app list for Chromecast.

Not everything, but most things. You can also use the Chromecast extension for chrome to stream anything from chrome.

well, Dropbox is just cloud storage... it wouldn't play any of the media. Whatever app you use to play the media would be the one that would have to support it. Many media apps support the cast protocol, and have it built in, but I do believe you need to have the Google Cast app installed as it triggers all those other apps to enable cast support.

Yeah, the videos play from dropbox on my phone so I guess the phone's player just needs to be supported by Chromecast! I'll have to do a little research!

Chromecast can mirror your phone to your TV, but that IS NOT the same as playing a phone game on your TV. My guess is if you can even get that to work, there will be performance issues and that's going to create lag, etc, etc, etc.

The thing I like to show people is you can mirror your camera to the TV, and then pose for a group shot and everyone can see themselves on the TV before you use voice activation to take the picture....No more issues with "Where's Tracy"... "He was holding the camera".

Edit: Sorry I read " play video games" rather than "play videos"

Youtube is Chromecast compatible. Start your own channel, then upload your vids there.

The latency isn't too bad, as long as you have a good network. I've mirrored a few games... It worked pretty seamless and better than I expected, that's for sure.

For the price, there is almost zero risk. And Google gives away from movie rentals from time to time, so mine has recouped what little I've paid for it, and then some.

Just found this app tonight, and while it is not Chromecast compatible alone, the Chromecast app allows you to mirror your phone to your TV. I just watched Xmen: Apocalypse...it was only 720p, but the app was free, the movie was free and I watched it at home on my own TV

Edit: forgot to mention it streams the vidz, I did NOT have to download anything but the app itself.

Nice! So how do you cast if no Chromecast support? Just mirror your device and rotate to full screen? I'll try it tonight but I am work untill 7pm, LOL!

That was a great app but it looks like they took it down. Anyone have an APK so I can download it on my tablet?

ETA: I found a similar app:

Look up Allcast. You'll thank me later. It's in the play store. Been using it more than a year. Download what you want, open Allcast, then find what you've downloaded.

The best audio and video quality on your TV comes from apps that are optimized for Chromecast. The original sound and audio are transmitted. When that's not possible, you can use Chromecast to mirror the phone.

The app still works on my phone. Is there a way to create an APK from that??
