First time I've ever had the rear camera glass break on a smartphone; unfortunately, it's my new(ish) GS7. T-Mobile customer service, both at the store and on the phone, say it'll be a $175 deductible to get them to ship me another S7. But, the gentleman at the store said that some of the places that replace screens also will replace the rear camera glass. I also see repair kits online and YouTube video walkthroughs.

Has anyone broken the glass on the S7 or something similar? Is it worth it to try to repair it, or get it repaired, myself, or just send it in with $175 and get another unit?

sorry about your phone.. you can replace it yourself.. It's just that you need good stable hands.. Don't mind me asking... how did you end up breaking it? do you use a case? I'd like to learn and be cautious if possible... thx

Thankfully, I discovered this thread:

https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S-Phones/s7-edge-rear-camera-glass-broken/td-p/2963

The people in this thread had the same exact damage to their S7s as I have currently. They've had varying degrees of success getting Samsung or their carrier to fix the damage, but with the people in this thread as well as other threads linked from that one, it looks like this isn't something you can avoid by being cautious, unfortunately. I didn't do anything except notice the glass on the camera had been broken. I use a Spigen case on my S7 and I've avoided dropping it or anything.

I'm going to see how far I can get with Samsung before possibly going the fix-it route myself, but that's certainly on the table as a possibility.

Some of the people in that thread are getting theirs fixed for free or for less than the $71 that Samsung claims to want. Hopefully, I can get my case resolved in a similar fashion.

I did eventually take my Galaxy S7 to a Samsung repair center, which fixed it for $45. I wasn't happy with it, but I did need the phone fixed then.

The exact same thing has happened to me, just 3 short months after owning this phone and it's outrageous that Samsung won't acknowledge the defect and is giving me and other consumers like us a hard time with replacing or repairing the devices without charge. I have never dropped this phone or mishandled it, and have always had it in an official Samsung protective case. I paid full retail for this phone and I refuse to give Samsung 1 more penny to repair a device becasue of their own design flaw and/or manufacturing device. With this kind of shoddy craftsmanship and lack of support, I will never buy Samsung again.

This is so bad.
It also happened to me yesterday. Never dropped my phone and the otter box was always on. Just a 5 month old phone. I was recording an indoor event for my company (just 7 minutes straight recording) and suddenly the video started to look a bit foggy. The interesting part was that the camera glass must have been still ok somehow. I tried to wipe of the glass during recording with my finger on the backside of the phone because I thought there is something on the lens. I did not look at the glass during the wiping but I would have felt a major crack with my finger. Just 5 minutes later when I was in my office and turned it around the camera looked like a bullet went through the glass. The glass was burst from inside out. Like an internal explosion. After that I went to the IT department and found out I am already the second person in my company with this issue. It is disappointing that the company is not transparent on the issue. We even don't know anything at this point. What will deteriorate next? I was a Samsung customer for many years but if this is not resolved properly I will look for other brands.
