Does everyone think we will get timely software updates from carriers for the Galaxy S9 since it will support Project Treble? Will updates even come from the carriers now or directly from Samsung?
Doubt they'll be timely, but I think they might be a little faster. Will still need to go through the carriers I'm sure.Does everyone think we will get timely software updates from carriers for the Galaxy S9 since it will support Project Treble? Carriers aren't going to let manufacturers send updates through without letting them test them. All project treble does it make it where the drivers and such are separate. I'm sure you'll still see them going through carriers on carrier branded phones.Project Treble updates should come directly and not through carriers since they are mostly dealing with device security. So at least you should, IN THEORY, see faster security patches and not be months behind on a new phone.

Apples and Oranges. Carriers aren't allowed to modify iOS. On Android they can create modifications apart from that made by the manufacturer.Really? Apple has done it for years
Come on man. That's Apple. They aren't gonna start letting Android manufacturers do it. Let's be real now.Really? Apple has done it for years

Figured it was a given since this is not an Apple forum. Everybody knew what I was talking about. You're just nitpicking lol. I couldn't care less what Apple gets to do. I'm talking about for phones with project treble, obviously. Now you say it correctly. That’s not what you said first time around. Apple proves it’s possible.
No one is ever going to let you do anything. If Google wants to solve this problem their going to have to find ways around it. Project Treble is a start, but until Android users demand more, they’re not going to get it

Nope, not a given when some of us switch back and forth between OEMs. You may not care, but some of us do.
That’s all. Back to the subject at hand![]()
I expect Samsung to be 4mos late instead of 6mos after Treble. Lol.Treble decouples the vendor stuff like drivers and such from the OS partition and puts them in a separate partition.
This means that device OEMs don't need to wait for updated drivers to build a new version of the software, so in theory, it should be faster.
In theory
Lol I'm right there with you on that. At least there might be SOME improvement thoughI expect Samsung to be 4mos late instead of 6mos after Treble. Lol.
Samsung is not Apple otherwise they wouldn't be bending over back to the useless carriers in letting them modify the firmware however the carriers wish.Really? Apple has done it for years
