Android Central Question

Recently videos stop playing on Netflix or YouTube on my Galaxy Tab S and I must hit play again to continue. On YouTube it is random but multiple times in a 3 min song. On Netflix it buffer pauses, backs up and replays some, or just stops with error 2.101.

If I dl a whole show in Netflix it happens when playing a downloaded show! No 2.101 suggestions work, like clear cache and reinstall Netflix. I even moved Netflix app and storage to sd card from internal memory.

Similarly replaying a presumably temporarily fully downloaded YouTube vid will still have the problem.

This has been weeks. Any ideas?

I use home wifi and windows comp and phone are fine.

I'm sorry, I tried that but it didn't work. Both YouTube and Netflix, including Netflix "download" shows still express the problem. They both use same vid streaming internals? What is that and how do I check it?

Also my mistake. The Netflix error is 2.102, not 101.

A new symptom! Netflix inserted, in Breaking5 Bad, a scene from some other show! I didn't recognize it.

I was mistaken.

What version of Android is the tablet running? If its Marshmallow, check to see if Android System Webview is up to date. If it isn't, then update it; but if it already is, try uninstalling updates, because these updates can sometimes cause issues for certain devices.

If the device is Nougat or above, Android System Webview's function is folded into Chrome, so you'd have to try uninstalling updates to Chrome to see if the problem goes away.

Hi, thanks. Android version is 6.0.1.

Uninstall ed webview, Chrome, YouTube, Netflix, installed Netflix without installing webview, had problem. YouTube did factory reinstall since it would not uninstall, same problem.

Webview uninstall ed in Google Play but button there says Update not reinstall. Is it not really gone? Since YouTube app and Netflix app work (until vid stops playing) without it, is it needed?

Android System Webview is a system app, so you can't completely uninstall it. You can uninstall all updates (which is what I wanted you to try as a test), but it looks like that didn't help.

Sorry, but I'm afraid I'm running out of ideas.:-\ Did you ever disable any system apps in the Settings>Apps menu?

Tried more video. AMC Aapp suffers as does CNN app.

That it happens not just with Netflix but with a fully downloaded show, which Netflix lets you do, suggests it isn't a streaming issue directly. Is there some test app for streams? It is clear they all use some OS secure video streamer. What is it? Am I the only person on the planet with a Tab S?

I canceled. My. VERzon pH num. They wouldn't break it, would they? I never once used it. I ran wifi only. Would trying it on public wifi be a good test?

Well tried wipe then factory reset from that special boot meu but no luck.

I guess next is your suggestion. I found one question similar but no responses.

I find it hard to believe it is coincidental to quitting Verizon.

Still have the problem. Here is some very bizarre info. If I put it in airplane mode, the fully downloaded Netflix shows play fine. But if it is just no wifi it still happens. BT is always off, and no Verizon 4G LTE. So if no 4g or bt or wifi, what else does airplane mode shut off?

So whatever the system video streamer is, it's being a naughty boy.

Two related things: is there an official Samsung site I can attach to for updates, like Microsoft does for Windows? I am scared of 3rd party sites.

The other thing: your login form doesn't work on my Tab S anymore. When I click in the login ID box, up pops a list of known login IDs, but this site's is not among them. But it won't let me type anything in. If I click in the pw box I can't type in there either (so it isn't the name popup's problem.) System version hasn't changed since the post well above, of course.

Is Netflix supposed to be using 50% of cpu? More accurately, 100% of two of four cpus? Even after closing it? Even on start before opening it?

Might there be a bit coin miner in it or the system secure video app?
