I'm looking for a new phone for my wife and GS7 / Edge are one of the options.

She owned a Note 4 before, but after about 3 months of using it it because so laggy and slow that she could not put up with it anymore, especially coming from an iPhone 6 Plus.

So, last night I went to the T-Mobile store to play with GS7, tapped on "all apps" icon...and about 3 seconds later list of apps showed up! Then I tried a few more apps, browser, camera, snapped a new photos and all seemed OK after that initial slow down on app drawer.

But then I opened the Gallery app, which only had about 15-20 photos in it, taken by customers before me. Tapping on the photo to view it caused really bad lag and jitter on the screen. It was very laggy zooming in AND out on the photos. (I wish I recorded a video of it, but didn't think of it at the moment). I went to the EDGE variant and tried the same thing, and encountered the same problem. One other "proper" GS7 had the same lag/jitter issue!!!
This experience turned me away from Samsung once more! I'm afraid to pay this much money for a phone that will most likely get extremely laggy and slow 3-4 months later!

If you bought the GS7 or EDGE, are you noticing this kind of slowness/jitter in the Gallery? I love the hardware and the size of the phone, but that software performance is what's pushing me away. My personal Nexus 6p is buttery smooth since the day I bought it back in November.

P.S. Please be honest with your replies! It seems that every reviewer is saying how perfect this phone is and yet, no one really mentions that Samsung phones still have unreasonable amount of interface lag for 2016 top of the line phone!

Have both the T-Mobile S7 models and I don't see any noticeable lag at least till now. And I'm not Samsung fan and every earlier Samsung phone I owned I returned because of the things you said. I have been using the edge for the last couple of weeks and the regular S7 from yesterday so had quite a bit of time with the edge model. One thing I did was remove the sd card after couple of days since I felt that was causing since choppiness when recording videos and I had chosen to save them in SD card, but after removing the sd card haven't run into any major issues and I'm happy to report haven't seen any lag.

Interesting how 3 phones on display had exact same issue!
My wife takes a ton of photos and videos of our kids, so removing an SD card won't be an option for us.
At this point we are waiting for a G5 or HTC.

Currently she uses a g4 and its very smooth even a year later. But she still dislikes the buttons on the back, so that is our main reason for upgrade.

Yeah the gallery app is a bit jittery

Not a problem at all with my Exynos S7. Sounds like the Snapdragon has issues.

Phones in stores run software that is optimized for display purposes. They do not run the same as consumer models. Please dont judge a phones usability by display models.

The store ones certainly are permanently in 'torture mode'. Screen brightness at 100%, always charging, running screensaver constantly, running on outdated software, have a load of bloatware installed like silly little kids games chewing up resources in the background and suchlike.

Mine is smooth, not sure why yours isn't? The only thing is draw in for previews when I scroll at hypersonic speeds.

Hahahaha!!! Who told you this?!
And even if this is true, how is one supposed to purchase an $800 phone based on this kind of display performance!? Do you test drive a car at the dealership and they tell you, hey, don't pay attention to anything you experience right now, because car you'll actually buy will have different engine in it. LOL.

And trust me, after owning two galaxy phones in past, and multiple friends who had them and each one had slowness issues with theirs...I can't close my eyes on these issues. It's 2016 and these phones are more powerful than my laptop from 7 years ago! Viewing a 12MP image on the phone should not slow it down!

I have to disagree with you. This phone had NOTHING installed on it besides what comes on the phone. I'm not new to the smartphone game and I know what to look for.

Well...you're obviously smarter than everyone else, just not sure why you would resort to asking a question in a forum when you already know everything.

But to answer your question, my GS7 runs smoothly even in the gallery app.

Fair enough. Still, I can assure you that my S7 is 100% jitter free in the Gallery app. It's the Exynos model so whether that makes a difference I don't know, I haven't used a Snapdragon one and I can't, it's not available in my country.

Thank you for your feedback.

I got the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge this past weekend and I love the phone....BUT the gallery causes major lag and freezing. I have not found a solution yet.

I know this is a bit old but I've had the GS7 Edge for almost 2 months and it's been doing really well. Coming from an iPhone there were a few disappointments with apps not being made as well or as smooth for android as they were for ios but the phone has been running fast. So far the issues have only centered around some apps. The Gallery app is indeed choppy when you have a lot of photos in it but don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean it's slow. It loads photos fast and it doesn't crash at all but the transition animation when opening photos is super jittery, showing its a poorly made app thats the problem and not the phone itself, the google photo app does not experience the same problem and as for zooming in and out of photos, it appears smooth for me despite the choppy animation. Similar thing with samsung's messaging app, it loads a messages' contents all at once so if you have a lot of messages stored it will be laggy and slow. I have mine set to a certain content limit which is actually there by default and so it doesn't lag for me. Other than that I haven't experienced any crashes or freezing. Things like the notification shade, accessing the app tray, using the camera, transitioning between a high amount of opened apps has been smooth with everything starting where it left from. Ram usage is a bit high (common for Samsung phones I hear) but there hasn't been any ram management problems so far. Apps could definitely be made better and battery saving could be improved when the phone is locked but other than that it's a great phone. I don't think anyone could go wrong with this phone other than these minor annoyances. The positives out weight the negatives.

No jittery issues or Gallery issues here after 7 weeks. Verizon Snapdragon S7 (non Edge).

No jitter on my S7Edge and I take loads of photos. Plus I have loads synced from my I pad and laptop.

No lag or jitter on my Gallery that I can notice, with 794 images currently on board.

Exynos S7 Edge Duos.
