gaps still present in current batches

So you overlook everything amazing about the One over a slight "gap"? I have personally not noticed this gap you speak of and I sell the HTC One frequently. But I do know that would be the least of my issues. I personally have light leakage in my bottom right corner...but my phone operates flawlessly. Why gripe about something so minor.

I do not consider a gap in build quality as minor when I am spending over $700 after tax to purchase outright. Sorry.

Shouldn't be spending that much.. I spent $630 with tax :).

I agree. We shouldn't get defective products for this price. Thankfully, mine is flawless and completely awesome.

One of the first review videos I saw on the HTC One showed that gap. 2:00 minutes into the video she goes over it.

In HTC defense, those issues might have been eliminated after the first couple of batches has been produced.

I just didn't understand how on 7/14 the op was putting a topic in the s4 forum asking about a launcher and saying he was going to install it on his s4 then two weeks later in this thread he was talking about the problems with the one and that he didn't opt to buy one.
It just seemed another topic that was started by someone who doesn't own a htc one and that does own a s4.. I won't comment on this thread anymore. I don't mind talking about build quality and how we all want a device that is premium in build as well as function but when it appears that a poster is just randomly opening controversial topics in a forum it makes me wonder

I thought this "Zero Gap" tech was in reference to the display being adhered directly to the digitizer/glass... not the build quality. Not that these gaps are OK... just thought that is what they meant.. no?

It's the way they make the back and sides. Nothing with the display, and nothing with the speaker grills.

I know where he is coming from. I wouldn't want a broken phone. I would want what I paid for.

With all due respect I have never been a part of any groups owning an S4 and purposely bashing the One simply because I own it's closest rival.

If you must know I own a Galaxy S4, Nexus 4, Note 2 AND even a Lumia 920 Windows phone. I love technology and was simply sharing my experience.

At the end of the day we are talking about phones. Phone in the grand scheme of things and life are pretty minimal lol. In my mind anyways.

Please stop accusing me. Enough already. Thank you.

I'm happy my phone isn't zero gap, otherwise where would I plug my charger and earphones?

Gaps FTW.

While I'm enjoying my HTC one, I agree with the OP. My phone has a tint gap atop the power button, not a big deal as I use and otterbox case. However it's a failure by HTC to make such a fine phone and allow something so basic to compromise it. Shame.

From the desk of Hiss Excellency.

My apologies.. I am sorry you were unable to find a one that didn't have any defects..
It is something that anyone purchasing a new phone has a right to expect and I'm open minded to products other than the one..

Personally If there were any defects I would request a replacement. I know for a fact there are several very well constructed htc ones out there.

I find it silly to assume perfection with any man made, mass produced product. As long as it functions and doesn't hinder my day to day use... I'm fine. That's where we differ I guess. I'm not going to waste my time and energy constantly going back and forth with HTC until I have a flawless device.

If I recall correctly the Zero Gap refers to the back plating leading to the tops of the white sides , not the speaker covers etc.

That is my understanding as well. I experienced the gap at the top of the phone above the power button between the aluminum and white.

My concern was it getting worse over time and dust, etc getting inside. We could actually put a little pressure on on the gaps and see them close.

I'd pass on it too if it had a gap. It's like buying a new car with a dent in it. Used car = ok. New car = not ok.

Yes! I think it's crazy some of you guys are settling with the defects that your phone may have. If you're buying a new phone, why settle? It has a defect, exchange it. What's wrong with that?

I have the One by the way, and it's spectacular, lol.

I've really enjoyed this thread. You have a guy mentioning a defect he's observed that bothered him. Then you have the die-hards that immediately accuse him of trolling because of it. I'm still very glad I was made aware of this because i've been considering a S4 Active, HTC One, Moto X, or possibly the Note 3 when it comes out. I still love the idea of the build on the One, but only if it's as flawless as some people proclaim it to be. Otherwise it'll probably be the Active all the way.
