gaps still present in current batches

Because that other person is too subjective or biased. You can make a completely logical point and he will not cooperate in any way. It is the same as arguing sports like Lebron vs Kobe, you will never hear the end of it.

Wouldn't what you described be considered a debate? Both think they are right so they talk about it to get it out in the open. Maybe, just maybe, one or the other might just see the point in question in a different light. But just to let you know, Topgonzo has helped a lot of people here and is a credible person. But just because one person doesn't agree with another, logical or not, right or wrong, doesn't make them subjective or biased. It makes them passionate.

I looked at several HTC One phones, the salesman at Best Buy offered to open multiple and she was just as concerned with the gaps as I was.

Could the title have been better? Yes, I agree it could have been but I was incredibly disappointed at the time fresh home from wanting to buy a One and not being able to due to gap issues.

I know this is a stretch, but have you tried a different store that sells the ONE? Maybe that particular BB got a bad batch from the same lot from the manufacturer. It happens from time to time. If it makes you feel any better, I went through 3 S3's before I got one that could hold a signal.

I have not yet but would 100% agree that it could have been a bad batch. As noted, I am not against the One and am open to buying as long as the build quality is what I expect when buying outright and investing the money I would be investing.

Mmm passionate that's a nice way to put it. I don't remember saying he wasn't a credible person or in any way a bad guy. I'm just saying the way he called out a person makes it no different that any one I've tried to argue before with another phone.

I agree he could have been a little more tactful. But sometimes I come off just as tactless. Got to remember, these are just words and sometimes it's hard to express feelings or emphasis on a point you're trying to get across. I do it so much better in person than I do typing.

I agree me too :)

What phone do you currently use so I could list defects on that phone, that is factory defects. You have had to accept a phone with factory defects but within factory tolerances.

It's hypocritical to think the gap on the HTC One is a worse off issue than others present in phones, software or hardware related because some software issues can't be fixed for months because of slow update releases.
Anyways that's up to each user to decide, and honestly anyone's choice is their own choice. As I said before, the OP held the matches to light the fire with his statements, accusations and obscene title.

Droid dna, have at it. There are no PHYSICAL defects on my device.

With all due respect please copy and paste any post I have submitted stating the HTC One gap issue is worse than other issues linked to other phones.

I never once said that. All I did say was that I was uncomfortable in spending my hard earned money on a phone with gap (build quality) issues. I never once stated nobody should buy it nor did I ever say anything about the gap issue standing out and being worse than issues linked to other handsets.

Thank you.

Kobes older there's still time for LeBron to have 9 more championships that's why this debate can't be had until then.

Thank you.

My comment was in regards to Jennifer's post not you. And it was in reference to no phone should have defects, when in reality pretty much all of them do.
Whether or not we look for them, care enough, or know what to look for is another thing.

My apologies.

While responding I will say that Jennifer made a great point which I whole heartedly agree with and that is how software related issues tend to be easier to accept and deal with. They can be fixed with future updates whereas physical build quality issues cannot.

I've been staring at the small gap to the side of my power button for five minutes now, and I'm still struggling to understand how anybody would not buy a phone based on this.

I mean, if there was circuitry falling out of the gap every time you turned the phone around then I'd understand, but a tiny gap on the top edge of the phone that you hardly ever look at.... nah man, I just can't see how this is a deal breaker.

People mention dirt/grit/etc finding its way into the gap... this isn't going to be a problem if two, three or however many specks get in there. And if you ARE worrying about this happening then why aren't you going out of your mind with worry about dust and dirt getting into the gaping blackholes found on every phone?! ... i.e. the earphone and usb/charging ports!

If I owned a phone shop and someone walked in rejecting phones based on a couple of millimetres space next to a power button I'd shake the shizzle out of them and bar them from ever entering again.
Not the best customer service, I know, but what can I say... it's what I'd do if someone crossed the boundary from OCD-land and walked into the kingdom of 'shut the hell up and get a grip son'!

;)

These gaps are NOTHING to be concerned about. You have a VERY rare chance of getting a 100% flawless product when it comes to mass production. The phone isn't even that expensive off contract considering the build materials and default storage being 32GB.

Not true, there is very big chance you're getting a flawless product when you're paying for the best.

I would personally expect pristine out of the box when spending $700 CAD for a premium device but to each their own right? Is it hard to find a 100% flawless product? It can be yes, however the customer has a right to expect it and when a customer does not get it he/she is not in the wrong for not settling just like those who do accept it are not in the wrong for deciding to keep it either. All about personal preference.

There is a big difference in a phone coming out of the box with a scratch on the bezel for example versus a separation in a build that should be sealed and not separated. I say this because there has been multiple comments about phones rarely being flawless and I believe we just need to be mindful of the flaw because they can't all be categorized as equal or the same.

/shrug mine has no gaps or flaws. I paid full price but I wouldn't count it as cheap still... Sure I'm gaining 32 GB instead of 16 GB but I don't count $600+ for a phone (remember that's what it is) as not expensive.. I wish I had your wallet :D.

Maybe the phones are refurburished because so many people are returning those with gaps, they go to the factory and get repacked and into the store again

It's illegal to market a used phone as new. Im sure the OP was looking at new, never used devices.
