Gboard comma key adds space, not comma

Hello
I have a new Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 and I'm finding that, with the Gboard keyboard, when I press the comma key, it enters a space, instead of a comma. It's not every single time but almost. It also happens with the period key. I have "Auto-space after punctuation" turned off and I've cleared the storage cache.

Is this a bug or is there something I can do to fix this?

Welcome to Android Central! Just to confirm, when this happens, do you actually see the comma or period key actually highlight when you tap it and the space appears? Just want to make sure you're not actually tapping the spacebar inadvertently -- this does happen to me from time to time.

Hi B. Diddy
I'll have to test that to see if I'm just missing the key but I very much doubt it. I had this problem for a while now with the period key but only recently with the comma key.

Not saying it's impossible you have a problem, but I've had similar issues with Gboard and it's just a case of me not hitting the comma and period buttons right. I've had this issue ever since I had to switch away from Swype because of old muscle memory habits and not being fond of the lack of a chin on modern phones.

I've kept an eye on this and it is definitely not just me inadvertantly hitting an adjacent key. I use the Samsung S Pen, with which I can be quite precise. I don't want to switch to SwiftKey but might have to if this can't be fixed. What I find curious is that the comma key problem only started upon me getting a new phone. The period key has been an issue for quite a while now. At least with the period key, I can train myself to use the double space tap. That doesn't work with the comma key.

As mustang7757 asked, does this happen on both inner and outer screens?

Also, have you tested the Samsung Keyboard to see if it also happens there?

It doesn't happen on either of the Samsung or SwiftKey keyboards, only on Gboard. It does happen on the front screen with Gboard. I'm testing SwiftKey now and like that this issue doesn't exist. It's too bad that I might make my choice of which to use, not on their respective features but on not having this issue.

At this point, the main thing I would suggest is to send feedback to Google from within the Gboard app's settings.

Without the Spen does this still happen? I can confirm on my Fold 7 it doesn't have the issue but doesn't support Spen to confirm this.
