My phone is a Google fi Android One Motorola Moto x4 phone running Android 8.1 (Oreo). The stock keyboard on my phone is Gboard and things were fine until tonight. I tried the SwiftKey keyboard, didn't like it and uninstalled it. When I switched back to Gboard the microphone for speech to text was missing. I went through several suggestions from the net including:

- Enabling and toggling Settings>System>Languages & Input>Virtual Keyboard>Gboard>Preferences>Voice input key
- Enabling and toggling Settings>System>Languages & Input>Virtual Keyboard>Gboard>Text Correction>Show Suggestion String (the microphone shows on the suggestion strip)
- Enable Settings>Apps & Notifications>See All>Gboard>Permissions>Microphone
- Enable Settings>Apps & Notifications>See All>Google>Permissions>Microphone

I toggled settings and restarted the phone with no luck. What I finally figured out is that I'd set SwiftKey as my keyboard and then uninstalled it. You'd think it would change back to Gboard, and it did, but the microphone button was gone so here is how I fixed it.

1. Re-download SwiftKey. Any keyboard would probably work.
2. Set SwiftKey as your keyboard using: Settings>System>Languages & Input>Virtual Keyboard>Manage keyboards
3. Set Gboard as your keyboard using: Settings>System>Languages & Input>Virtual Keyboard>Manage keyboards
4. My microphone key was again visible
5. Uninstall SwiftKey

I make no guarantee that this will work for you but it's a different solution than the others I saw out there so I wanted to share my findings. Good luck!
