Gear Manager unable to find...

So for Christmas I've been given a Gear S, supposedly compatible with my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 tablet. I downloaded the app with no problems, I am able to pair the device separately, but within the Gear Manager app it cannot find my Gear S. Can anyone provide possible solutions to this problem as currently my Gear S is a fancy bracelet! In two months I upgrade to the Note 4 but my current phone is too old to run Gear Manager.
 
What phone do you have. And I had the same issue with my phone earlier. Go to app management. Samsung apps and clear the cache. Un install gear manager and start all over.

Unfortunately this didn't work :-(
I'm trying to connect the Note 10.1 2014 tablet because my current phone is the original Note and so can't run the required version of Android. The tablet is on the list of compatible devices so I'm not sure why there's a problem.
 
When i spoke to samsung on the same issue i was told gear is only for connecting to phones not to tablet something in software wont allow app to load and locate if some one finds a way around this let me know
 
The annoying thing to me is that the tablet I have is clearly listed in their compatible devices so I feel it should be able to connect. Not found a solution other than to upgrade my phone.
