AC Question

Hi All,

I recently received a Gear S2 sport watch as a gift. For the first few days the battery would be at about 55-60% at night before putting it on the charger. Now, yesterday and today, the battery drained completely in about 5 hours from 100%. I don't remember making any changes or installing any apps, I had it pretty much set to default. Now I'm playing with it by turning the brightness down, wake on gesture off, wifi off, nfc off. I did a factory reset. Nothing seems to help. I can literally watch the battery meter tick down.

What could be causing this?

I've had my classic for a few months and the battery would always last 2 days. These last few days though I'm having the same problems as you. I don't know if the recent update did this but I have not changed any settings. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Same here. Reduced from 2 complete days to less than 12 hours... I believe also it is related to firmware update

Glad I wasn't alone, I am trying out the S2, I also have a Moto360 (2015), and I was really disappointed I can't get through one day with the S2. After the latest update, the Moto lasts 2-3 days pretty easily. So I guess there's nothing I can do...

The battery life you're getting does not seem normal. My bluetooth classic (R 732, non-3G) using the latest firmware (CPC5) is still typically above 50% after 18 hours of use. (That's with "always on" turned off, brightness at 50%, dark watch face.)

If some (or all of you) have 3G watches, the battery life expectations are different and there are settings unique to that class of watch.

Good morning,
I have the 3g version with verizon, I took mine off the charger 8:30 am Thursday and currently (Friday) at 11:30 am have 51% still. I am connected via blue tooth all the time and have gps on, mobile network set to autoswitch and wifi off. I have NFC off as well, I had to do a lite reset to get that to turn off, sounds like a common issue after the update.

What software version are you running on your Verizon 3g model?

Mine last a couple of days more tha 2. Its always connected to my phone . I only have certain notification going to it. I dont see the point of having app notifications that cant be answered. Just the classic BT version

Hi finally solved my problem. Looking at the watch logs I had a lot of lines with errors in contacts sync. Disabled all contacts to sync with smartwatch and deleted a lot of old contacts (I had more than 1000 contacts, reduced finally to 700), and now it returned to normal, two days of battery...

I was having huge battery drain over the last week. I did a soft reset last night and it is working great today. 14 hours so far and 71% left. It's back to its normal self.

I'm having the same problem. I probably need to look at the contact sync. I have over 12k business contacts in my phone. I know android is not designed to handle that many contacts. But dosent seem to affect my huewai watch. The Huawei watch will easily have 50 percent left when my VZW s2 3g dies.

Not sure I would like to know also. I have done a reset and turned essentially everything off other than Bluetooth (3g, Nfc, heart rate, GPS, call forwarding, no apps installed, black stock face, etc.). Still dies on just a few hours . I had 1 day last week where I thought the problem was solved, but back to the same horrible battery life the next day. Looks like I'll be putting it on eBay soon.

Came in here to say I'm having the same battery life problems on my Gear S2 since the most recent update (3g version, Verizon). I did a full reset last night to see if it would help, but it didn't. My watch has been off the charger for about an hour and it's at 80% right now (about 20 minutes of that was remote connection while I was out for a run).

BT on, Mobile on, Wifi off, NFC off, Location was off until I went running (S-health turns it on), but even so, 20% in an hour isn't as good as it used to be.

Can you elaborate on this process a bit? Viewing the watch logs and changing contacts sync?

The easy way: remove contacts access in Gear Plugin app in Android Permissions. Then you will not see who is calling you in the smartwatch. But probably battery returns to normal levels...

I'm not willing to remove that level of functionality. But this is so weird - since my post, I changed Location from GPS + Wireless to just GPS, and it's now 90 minutes later and my battery is at 79%. So I've lost just 1% in over an hour.

One other difference - my phone is closer to me than it was before, so I wonder if they changed something with the BT radio that makes it try to connect with more power when the phone is in the next room (vs. giving up and going into remote connect mode).

From my expirence I think the battery level lags a bit. I notice simular periods where it does not move, then it will drop 20 percent in an hour. Oddly yesterday I took it off the charger at 65 percent, 20 minutes later it was at 71 percent. That has only happened 1 time.
