Get a Droid or wait?

Honestly, you can't go wrong with any Android phone on the market but my eyes were set on the Droid, even after the N1 released. I was on T-Mobile and could have gotten a N1 but I wanted a Droid because of its physical keyboard and D-pad. It was well worth the switch and I also like the prefer the build quality of the Droid over any phone I've had.

Pro tip: Try out the Droid and Eris in the store. Choose one that you prefer and play with it for a few days and see if you can live with it. If not, return it and wait for something you might prefer.

Yeah, VZW has got that niffty 30 day no worry return policy. but there WILL be a restocking fee. Only $35 I believe.

I'm all for the "get a phone now because there will always be a new phone coming down the pipe" but with the HTC Incredible in the picture, I would at least wait for some more details to emerge on that device before making a decision...

it really doesnt look that special unless sense UI is a must have for you and you want something droid comparable with a faster processor and bigger screen than the eris...looks like a similar phone to the nexus 1 with sense.

Yep I would say that about does it... I really preferred the ERIS over the DROID however Sense was slow and drained battery too quick. I believe that will change with Sense 2.1/ Snapdragon...

I really like Sense UI too, but I've gotta say it does drain battery fast. Really fast (for me; I push a lot of data).

So I returned it within 30 days, and am anxiously awaiting details of the Nexus One on Verizon... Unless I just break down and get a DROID...

Thats why its all preference, I prefer regular android because it will get updates faster and Im going to root it anyway and put customs roms on them as they adopt to new updates.

There will always be a phone coming....If you want a phone now, but it for the features that it has now. Don't expect it to be upgraded. If it is great. If you don't like the current phones, don't buy one now. Having said that, I am very happy with my Droid. It was a huge step up from the Palm Centro and I think it will definately keep me happy for another 18 months.

There is also no guarantee that the new HTC will be going to verizon either. Go Droid!

On a side note, all you Droid users should count yourselves lucky you're not stuck with the European/South American/Asian/Australian/Canadian version known as the Milestone. At least with the Droid you can flip the bird to Moto if you wish and put together your own custom ROMs incorporating best features of different devices. With the Milestone (for the moment at least) you're REALLY stuck with whatever Moto chooses to release.
Im pretty sure it was rooted a while ago?

Im pretty sure it was rooted a while ago?

It was, but only on 2.0 and SOME 2.0.1 versions. What I was referring to however is the inability to install custom ROM images (changing the actual guts of the OS not just the system applications) due to Motorola's choice to privately sign all the important parts of the OS.

For example, on a Droid you can install custom ROMs that allow for overclocking; you cannot do this on a Milestone, with root or no root.

I am also expecting Google to come out with SD card support before the year is out, so you can install apps on the SD card. There is no proof of that, just seems to me like a logical evolution.

I thought that they said that they would have apps on the sd card in the future...

I am glad I got the Droid, it is serving me well and cant wait for the 2.1 free upgrade. I am going to stay with the Droid for a while because it just does the job and does it well. If you get a Nexus, and it breaks, you will have to ship it back. I like being able to walk into a store and handle a product before purchase and be able to bring it back when it breaks.

I love the Droid, but I'd wait simply because there are some intense rumored devices with 1Ghz plus processors and even better, higher resolution displays. Unless you're dead set on a physical keyboard (haven't seen any rumored devices with those), then I'd give it a few months and see what comes up. Hell, wait till June and you might be able to snag a CDMA iPhone, just saying!

IMO, wait for the Nexus 1 to drop on Big Red. We are now learning that the 2.1 update Droid owners were waiting on will not bring it to the N1's level. VZW, understandably, wants the N1 to be top dog when it drops on VZW. No point in getting a phone that is not tops when u get it. Just my opinion though.

I just got the DROID and I am very please. I thought about waiting, but I like having the physical keyboard just incase for those long emails and all. The N1 is superior in some peoples eyes, and inferior in others. Specs don't always tell all. Some people will want the keyboard, some could care less.

Update! After a lot of back-and-forth, I bit the bullet and jumped in on the Droid. I'm going through the whole new device excitement all over again and I've loving it! So much more polished and smoother than BB OS 5.0. So many more high quality apps than I know what to do with! Of course I had to buy Beautiful Widgets right off the bat.

I'll miss the instant push e-mail that my BB had, but I can do without that. Droid's got so many more positives that I'm definitely willing to overlook that one thing.

I'm in a similar situation as well and so far have been waiting even though I had the Verizon offer to upgrade to the Droid or Storm2 as I've got the Storm.

I'm waiting on VZW to release some hard facts but with the Nexus One being potentially soon...I want to wait till April when my upgrade is officially in play. I've got a Best Buy gift card waiting around so that will also play a role too.
