Get back to OTA from 5.7.893

I had 5.7.893 installed and this is what I did to get back to OTA update path.

(1) went into recovery mode flashed back to 5.5.886 from my SD card

(2) installed the 5.886 radio http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21566851/Phone/radio.zip via recovery from SD Card

(3) Rooted pone

(3) then applied the correct version of the kernel http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54323236/5T0ck886.rar

(4) at this point would no longer boot so I did a recovery to 5.5.886 from the SD card (note you may not need to do a restore to 5.5.886 in step one you may only need to do it in step 4 but this is the way it worked for me)

(5) Then booted up phone and then OTA update to 5.5.893 worked just fine.

Hmmm, yes, morning perusal of various android forums suggests there is a way back to the official upgrade path. That's certainly good news. I'm on the 5.7.893 leak and would like to get back on the path but never rooted so I can't do step 1 ... recovery back to 5.5.886.

Hoping guides are written up at some point today with instructions for us leaked, non-rooted users.

I'm on 5.7.893 as well but I am rooted. The second link in your post is not correct or it's no longer working correctly. I get an error message when it tries to load. I would love to be back on OTA but I don't know where to get the recovery file for 5.5.886 so if someone would like to post instructions for doing this, I would greatly appreciate it.

That's not true. You don't have to be rooted to recover 886. And once you do, then you'll get root so you can perform the rest of it. Honestly, everyone should have a look at this:

While I bricked my phone, no one else has, and it seems to work for everyone else that's tried it. Make sure you follow EVERY step and read through it carefully.

Yup, worked for me. A bit nerve wracking at first but the procedure did work.

How does this compare to the post by FenixJr that SamuriHL refers to? I would like to try this way if it works. Can you you tell me if I am understanding this correctly ljk?

I downloaded both files. I am rooted and on 5.7.893. I already have 43v3root installed when I loaded 5.7. So I would copy both files to my SD card. Next I would go into recovery and flash the radio zip file. I am a little lost on what to do with the 5.5.886.rar file?

That's what I used. I'm currently restoring my stock rooted image in CWR. I'm back, baby! Sending the warranty replacement phone back unopened when it comes.
