If you have the "permanent recognition" feature on (where you can wake it up with your voice even if the screen is off), yes that does kill battery, no question.

I switched to "shake to wake" and am finding it not bad at all in terms of battery. Definitely the coolest app I've used in a while...

[edit]: Oh, and I have utter reading my notifications out loud now so activenotifications may get the boot! :p

[edit2]: Utter has a tasker plugin and I may attempt setting it up so permanent recognition is turned on automatically when on my charging orb and off otherwise...
