Get unlimited data on ungrandfathered lines!

Not sure why you would want to at this point in the game but yes. The Verizon doesn't have different data plans for 3G vs 4G devices.

Just got off with Verizon, the lady said no go, it would remove me from my Twice the Data (4GB) and bump me to 6GB with mobile hotspot. She said there is no way to get unlimited unless you were grandfathered in. Should I try again later or something? XD

Try what i did.

Ask for the 30$ mobile hotspot feature. Dont mention i want unlimited. Just ask for that feature and dont mention unlimited, as i think that tips them off to actually see what there about todo. If you did do that, try again. Alot of people are having success.

I only asked about the unlimited after she verified the 6gb and 50 dollars. Are people finding the unlimited after they put the changes through?

Just worked for me. I just put 4 brand new lines on unlimited internet.

Basically what the rep told me was that there is an error in their system with the promotional $30 for double the data plan. They only way around it is to give people Unlimited for $29.99!

I just called in and it added the unlimited data to my plan but the lady told me that if i were to remove the hotspot feature, I would be reverted to my 4GB plan. I guess Il'l find out what happens when I call back to remove the hotspot in 2 days.

You can log in to my Verizon right now and remove it yourself. I did this yesterday and still have unlimited mobile data for the time being.

This is crazy news! I have been debating on whether I was going to jump ship on Sprint or not. The only thing that was the major drawback would be losing my unlimited data. So I went to Amazon to purchase 2 Thunderbolts for $0.01 to last me and my mom until the Samsung Nexus releases. I get to the Verizon Double Your Data (choose data option) portion and I see a '$29.99 - keep my existing unlimited data option'. I clicked it for both phones. Is it fair to assume that the data "glitch" has trickled over to Amazon's site as well? From that option I can only assume that when my phones arrive in a few days, our account will technically have the unlimited data attached to each phone I ordered.

That's not going to work and not what people in this thread are doing. When activating your lines Verizon will probably stick you on the $30 for 4GB plan.

I've never purchased through Amazon before for mobile phones. So when Amazon gets my order, it goes to Verizon (who handles activation and processing). Won't they have to contact me first before just sticking me onto the $30 data plan? I can't see them just putting me on whatever plan without asking first seeing as how these were the terms I signed up for (even though the data area is incorrect). Do you suggest that I purchase/activate in store and call customer service when I get home to add the mobile hot spot, then remove it?

If I read the Amazon site correctly, in order to get the phones for a penney, you have to ADD a new line of service to your existing plan. New lines to not qualify for the grandfathered unlimited plan, so I'm not sure how you got that screen on Amazon. If I go to Amazon and try to do anything except add a line to an existing contract, the price changes to VZW pricing.

Also, Cares had a good point about them changing the data once they recieved my order. I didn't want them to change me to a current Double Your Data plan once they saw the error on my order. It's not that you can't make changes to your plan in 6 months if you use Amazon...you basically can't cancel it in 6 months or else you have to pay for the phone. Call them to double check. I had this concern too.

But either way, I suggest signing up with Amazon (which is what I did). Get the $30 plan. Call in to Verizon after activation to add 4G MHS. Don't mention anything about unlimited data and see where it takes you.

But how can they offer a phone for a penny in it's a new line, but for a 22 year customer the best they can do is $149? Is it just about adding new lines of service? My $2600 yearly spending carries no weight?

Not entirely sure on the details of Amazon's business model regarding these phones. They could just be taking a loss or breaking even in order to promote their wireless branch of the business. If they are taking a loss, it is basically categorized as promotional dollars for the business.

Cellular stores typically get x amount of money credit from the carriers for new contracts and upgrades. Let's say the cost of the phone from Verizon to Amazon is $200 and they get $200 credit from Verizon for a new 2 year commitment that are at least lasts 6 months. I'm pretty certain about this 6 month date otherwise Amazon would not impose this in their T&Cs.

It's actually quite simple. Amazon's commission check is a lot higher for a new customer or new line of service than it is for a simple upgrade so they have more profit to trim and pass off to you. Not saying it's right; It sucks, but that's how it is.
