Get your Gmail account ready

I'm going to end up buying mine online to skip the MIR, so nobody's touching my phone but me. Even if I didn't, though, I'd be all set for them to migrate me over. I'm a storm owner, but I drank the google kool-aid long ago. I use gmail, chrome is my default browser at home and work, just signed up for google voice, and regularly use google calendar. I hid verizons backup assistant app because I already use google sync :) Getting an android phone will be the last phase in the transformation.

This is one thing I have a problem with. People are going to be walking into the store and asking all kinds of questions and wanting their Twitters set up and have the phone explained to them, and their contacts and stuff transferred over and all other kinds of stuff that is going to hold up the lines. I want to walk in, pick up a box, hand them my credit card, and then leave.

Amen!

totally! i havent purchased a phone at store in a very long time as well, and i just want to purchase and get out as quickly as possible. does anyone know what the typical verizon store protocal is when buying a smartphone in store? if it's way to much hastle, then i might just order online and wait an extra day.

I would personally do it over the phone....If it was a phone that was out for a bit no problem but with a new device you probably will be there an hour or so and all the LONG receipts you have to sign :)

I've had my Gmail account since the first month it was launched. I've had it set up how I like it for years, and am damn ready to see it in action on the Droid X!!

I feel like its a bit of a load of crap that you need an gmail to access the App market, if that is indeed whats going on there, it should just be open.

**EDIT** That was not a reference to Android being an "open" OS, but it sounded cool :D

They do this because when you buy apps from the Market, the transaction is processed via Google Checkout, which is associated with you Gmail account. If you haven't already added a credit card to your Google Checkout account, this is also something you are going to want to do.

P.S. - you can add an Amex card to your Google checkout account, but you can't purchase apps in the Market that are sold using foreign currency. You have to use a Visa or MasterCard for these transactions.

That's why I use Google Apps. I don't look like I use a gmail account, but I really do :)
Ditto.

I don't even do that. Depending on your account status, you may have the ability to bill it to your account. I asked yesterday and I can bill up to $650 on my ~$100/month (pre-discount) bill.

Same here. Doing my own unboxing is a ritual for me. I don't want anyone touching it before I do, and I don't want them standing there watching me either. I'm paying full price, so they have no reason to take it out of the box, I don't expect them to hassle me about this.

My precious....

Especially with touch screens. They touch the screen, a box of kittens die. (Not really but thats what I feel on the inside).

LOL, I did the same exact thing. As soon as I realized that I was fed up with BlackBerry, I set up a GMail account because I KNEW that it was only a matter of time before I went to Android. That's when I started my countdown to NE2, and it's here now!!!

Same thing here,lol!
