Getting Rid of HTC 10

Stick with your 6P. S7 really isn't any better. I tried the S7 Edge and 7 and already had my 6P. Compared both cameras and 9 out of 10 times you couldn't tell which phone took the pic. Returned both of them for many many reasons…including the camera.

6P is still the best phone out there including a very solid camera. That's right…you heard it here...

Lol. The 6P was never even considered the best phone when it first came out. Good phone, yes. Best phone. No way!

It's kind of annoying when people say something is the best phone. That is so subjective. Best phone you have ever had, sure but best phone is such a bold claim. The 6p is pretty good though, I would have loved to try one if it wasn't so huge.

I have absolutely no problems with WiFi on my HTC 10 (on Sprint). My company has 5 WiFi options and my Galaxy S6 used to always have trouble going back and forth between them. Not a problem on my 10. Further, I have no trouble taking a picture either. I kind of think you're making it up.

Dude just bought it today and can't wait for it to be updated? My S6 was a hunk of junk and at least waited for 3 updates before I was talking about jumping ship. Wait for the camera update and you'll be more than pleased.

LOL. I'm always amused by how defensive people get when someone else doesn't like the phone they chose. It's a phone, fer chrisakes, not a religion or your wife / husband. No phone is perfect. No phone. That's why we have choices. If someone prefers a different phone, let them. It's not an attack on your manhood, family, religion or the size of your parts. It's a hunk of plastic, metal and glass.

Get over it.

I tell you what, just go to the play store, HTC camera, and read the reviews. A bunch of folks are complaining about the camera not properly focusing. Why would anyone make that up? What would be the point?

If this update comes to the actual camera app in the play store, then I've received it. However, if it's an OTA then it's still in tow. I actually do not know which update is supposed make the camera work better. Am I confused?

A camera update that changes the way pictures look has to be an OTA. Qualcomm and Sony write shared objects (think of them as drivers) for the Linux kernel that controls the hardware features and functions. Those are what turns points of light into an actual photo.

Updates that do things like fix shutter timing or affect/add features like camera modes or settings are done in the app update.

Unfortunately I have issued a return for this phone today and surprisingly it is not because of the camera (as this thread seems to be more about gripes with the camera). I'm not a heavy camera user and never had a good camera on my phones anyways so it isn't that relevant to me.

What really got to me though is this pinkish hue tint that has plagued my device. Some of the reviews and forums have mentioned this and offered possible solutions. However I tried giving the solutions a try and letting time run its course but to no avail. I really cannot tolerate looking at this device at the normal viewing angle when seated at my desk with the phone next to my keyboard. I've tried to maintain it on full brightness as well but that just drains the battery and can be hard to look at. Don't get me wrong - the display when used front-on is very nice but this pink viewing angle is a true downer. At this point I'm going to call it a manufacturer defect or a lack of patience (my 30 day return policy is almost up and HTC won't provide a replacement at this time).

Some of the other issues I had with the phone:

  • Heat - after moderate use or charging, the phone got much hotter than other metal devices I've had (well about 100 degrees F)
  • WiFi - the WiFi used to drop constantly before the update but got better (not entirely though)
  • Wireless Signal - I only get 1-2 bars of service but when I make a call it shoots up to full bars. Other devices, like the A9 had better service. On T-Mobile, this device doesn't seem to support VoLTE or WiFi calling either, which is something the A9 offered

I will miss the good parts of this phone though:

  • Haptic Feedback - love how responsive the touch is and the feedback when typing
  • Battery Life - still had plenty of battery left after a full work day
  • Fast Charging & USB Type C
  • Speed - this phone is really fast
  • Beautiful Build Quality
  • Speakers - not quite Boom Sound perfection but still good speakers

For now, I'm going back to the HTC One A9 and sticking with it. I really like the A9's Samsung AMOLED Panel and On-screen buttons as well as the overall weight, thinness, and design (I don't care if it looks like an iPhone). Granted it's not as fast as the 10 but is still a very solid device that was overlooked. I've also owned the M7 for almost 3 years before as well so this was a really big let down for me by HTC. But for those who are happy with the device, kudos!

I'm still on the fence, and I definitely have some of the same issues. I'm having a difficult time returning it because I'm instantly in love with the music reproduction through headphones.

Definitely agree with you and feel your pain. The audio quality, especially with headphones, is absolutely phenomenal.

Just an aside, but if you get a chance to hear the soundtrack to Epcot's French Pavilion's film "Impressions de France", you're in for an absolute treat. It's a full-range workout to the audio capabilites of the 10.

The SE will undoubtably be a daily driver for many. Especially if you can read it with no problem. I went from the 6S Plus down to the 6S and thinking about going smaller to the SE. One Handing a phone is very important for many people.

I will keep my Droid Turbo 2 for work and the 6s (or SE) for fun

I bought the unlocked version of the 10 - so is the networking hardware different on the T-Mobile variant than the unlocked version?

(My A9 is also an unlocked variant but WiFi calling works)

Yes. The A9 uses the plain-old Google way of doing WiFi calling and it works with T-Mobile. The unlocked HTC 10 has a WiFi calling app in the system partition, and it's not working for many/most T-Mobile users. I've no information about it other than it's being looked at.

FWIW, I have the same exact issue here. Works fine with A9, not at all with HTC 10.

I had the exact same dilemma. Really wanted to love the 10 more than my A9 but in the end the day to day use
was almost exactly the same. I went back and forth with each phone for about three days at a time (Thank
you GSM!) and could not justify the price difference. I had both setup with exactly the same apps so I could
compare then evenly. Both phones are great but for me the 10 is not $375 greater (The difference between
selling the A9 and the cost of the 10). Looks like I'm waiting for the next big thing!
