Getting Rid of HTC 10

I have a pair of cheap *** sunglasses that I got at Walmart for taking to the ocean. I keep them in my wife's car now and wear them when we're in her car. I can't see a d a m n thing on my 6s Plus when I wear those. I can't believe Apple would make such a huge mistake like this. It forces me to either slightly move the sunglasses down my nose or actually look at the world around me and interact with real people instead of staring at my phone!!

If it makes you feel any better, it's not just phones...

I have a Garmin 725 in the avionics suite in my Piper. It's significantly pricier than the HTC, my Droid Turbo 1, or the other phones I've used, and I can't wear/use polarized sunglasses while using it.

I have two pairs of Ray Bans; one for flying (Non-polarized), and one for everything else (Polarized.) Usually, though, the polarizing filter is only in a single direction. Moving your head right-left or up-down and changing the angle of "looking" at the screen will allow you to see it.

Just trying to say LCDs and Polarizing is a far bigger problem than just HTC; don't throw them under the bus alone.....

Then they should have went the route other manufacturers have by making it less visible in landscape mode, not portrait.

Then the people that use it more in landscape mode more would be 😢 like a 👶. Can't win I guess.

Not the 1 just the 10

In regards to the polarization, for me, I can see the screen fine in portrait mode. When I turn in landscape, it then makes it very difficult to see the screen.

I wear polarized shades, also. When viewing any phone, wearing any type of shades, is a bad experience in my opinion. You have to crank the screen brightness way up, just to see the screen. That is when viewing both amoled and lcd screens. So, I just take my shades off.
In my car, I have a ceramic tint on the windows (lowers radiant heat coming into the car). It also presents a funny effect when wearing polarized shades while driving.
This thread has gotten on my nerves, seeing it every time I come to this site. If you sent it back great, there is no perfect phone. There will never be, but the HTC 10 is a great phone in it's own right. I've been enjoying mine for the past two to three weeks and don't plan on sending it back

I'm right there with you. I can't believe the smallest things that people find to endlessly complain about. It's the ultimate "first world problem" And people are so indignant about it, as if it's a personal slight against them that HTC has done. It's amazing.

The 10 is definitely a great phone but I don't think its invalid to voice displeasure about not being able to view your phone with sunglasses on. Thankfully I don't have this problem since I can view mine fine in portrait but if I was out at the pool and wanted to play a game on my phone with shades on (which you should have your shades on always to take care of your eyes), it would be very annoying that now I can't. I shouldn't have to remove my sunglasses to use my phone. That is what I would call non-practical. And phones should be practical.

You're right about that. I'm just speaking about some of the people that seem to be throwing temper tantrums over it. I get it being annoying and it's a weird thing that it's even an issue. But some people really need to relax a little.

Perhaps, but considering there seems to be a discrepancy with the screens and polarization based on which company manufactured the panel, that is a major annoyance.

I think most are just stating its going back. Which is the reasonable response when you can't use your $700 device under normal circumstances. The bigger lament is that this is something so easy to get right (look at older HTC devices, iPhones, One Plus etc) that its unfortunate HTC is costing themselves sales because of it.

HTC needed to do the little things well, and this was a missed opportunity.

Agreed. Everyone has different needs so what someone may say is unacceptable and won't work for them. Such as those with sunglasses -- I don't use them so this would never be a factor for me. For those who do though? It very well could be a "make or break" situation for them :).

Exactly. I am outside often and wear my sunglasses quite a bit. I have a huge head (lol) and I am picky about which ones I wear. I'm not going to go out and pay hundreds of dollars for new sunglasses in addition to the 700 dollars I spent on a new phone. My iPhone screen is able to be viewed perfectly fine with polarized lenses so ... Back to the iPhone I go.

The htc 10 was almost about to pull me away. But it couldn't happen unfortunately.

HTC will never get the camera right SMDH. All the money they have and cannot get a simple camera right.

I've been saying that ever since the M8. Typically, my HTC phones have had connectivity issues as well, whether Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and even cellular signals have suffered with these phones. And, the fanboys like to write HTC passes and say because their phones work perfectly, you're trolling if yours doesn't AND you post that it doesn't. I was trying to view video last night on YouTube on my 10 and it kept stopping, I'm like what's going on and I look up to see I'm only on LTE, but the signal is weak in my house. So, of course I'm thinking where's my Wi-Fi signal as the Wi-Fi was on and when i looked into the Wi-Fi settings I could see my Wi-Fi signal plain as day, but it wasn't connected. Why? Well, maybe my Nexus was having issues too, right? Nope! It was connected to WiFi and the signal was strong as ever. I tapped my Wi-Fi on the HTC and it reconnected. But, it did not reconnect on its own. And, it continued to disconnect throughout the evening. Same ole HTC!

When I had previous versions of these phones I had the same issues. I used you think it was my Wi-Fi, so I did everything I could to troubleshoot. I added a different router and all kinds of stuff. The problem was never resolved. I buy a Nexus 6 and never had another Wi-Fi issue with my phone. I buy the Nexus 6p, no issue. But, I'll be damned. I buy the HTC 10 and BINGO looks like my Wi-Fi is dropping signals again. I'm looking at both phones and the 6p had a solid signal while i have to keep opening Wi-Fi settings on the 10 and reconnecting because it wouldn't do it on its own. WTF!

So yeah, the OP is right and I feel his pain. It's frustrating because as a fan you want HTC to win, but you feel duped by all the media hype about the phone pre -purchase only to discover that the media gave you more emotional accounts of how great the phone was than actual accounts. The camera sucks and so does connectivity. Those are major features that many other OEMs are consistently getting right. Sorry! This damn phone is going back!

I have no Wi-Fi connectivity issues. My Wi-Fi has never dropped on my 10. I have zero camera issues. No focusing issues. I get great pics. Maybe you got a bad unit...

I guess I'm in the lucky group of people who have not had wi-fi issues out of 4 different HTC devices. I did have the pink tint issue on the M7 camera. That sucked but was repaired for free in December.
