Getting Rid of HTC 10

I agree, I'm not saying the camera app is garbage. I'm saying that the HTC software engineers simply do not have the talent to match the hardware with great image processing. I'm willing to bet Apple, lg, and Samsung could get this HTC camera to perform better with the exact same hardware. Yes, choice is good, but HTC won my heart with the OG EVO and the m7 and ever since they've disappointed. They're kinda like that teen-ager of yours that you love dearly but you just don't like em! Lol, I got one of those too.

I agree with you about HTC's camera engineers. I had the M7 and when I turned HDR on, it actually blew out the highlights more. It just didn't make any sense and they don't seem to have improved much. Brain drain maybe?

This is from the queue for Pirates of the Caribbean, taken with no adjustments or flash. Not sure what I did right or wrong, but it captured far more detail than I anticipated. The lighting is so low that you have to stare into the pit a few seconds before you can see things like the cannon at the bottom.

Because cell phone cameras are damn near as good as point and shoots now. It's us consumers pushing them to get better and better through our purchases.

The 10 outstripped my Sony 18 megapixel camera hands down. Where the Sony showed blur or noise, the 10 was crisp and clear. By the end of the day, the Sony stayed in my pocket.

Disney is the best proving ground for a cell phone. you need battery all day, you need ruggedness (since you will probably drop it or spill an ice cream on it, you need a kick *** camera. size if a factor since you will be carrying it around for a million hours in the scorching heat. you can talk specs all day, but I will take a summer day in the Magic Kingdom as a much better barometer of a phones worthiness

Many cellphones have failed my own Disney Gauntlet

I think that cellphones are about to take a step backwards. I know a lot of people opting for a point and shoot camera again for their daily camera. The popularity of the Iphone SE shows that people are looking to downsize their phone and going with size and comfort over a one-device for everything.

I bought a Kindle a few months ago and love having a device just for reading. I know that I can do it on my smartphone or tablet but it is nice to actually pick up a kindle (like a book) and not worry about a million chirps and notifications going off while I am trying to read. The same can be said for a camera.

I would actually argue that for some people, the iPhone SE is still the one device for everything. For some, it isn't, but for me, it's a solid experience and the main camera is good in its own right so a point and shoot would be a downgrade. Had no problem reading on it, in fact, one of my favorite things to do is to eat with one hand and hold and read with the other. That phone makes it so easy to make that happen.

Most point and shoot cameras have sensor sizes that are 1/2.3" or 1/1.7". Both of which are usually bigger than what are in cell phones (minus the Nexus 5X/6P, the HTC 10, the Lumia phones, the Sony XPeria phones, etc.). And point and shoot lenses are worlds better than what are put in phones. Your comment about point and shoots being a downgrade to a cell phone camera is pretty much not even close to accurate. Remember that as far as cell phones have come, point and shoots have been improved just the same over the same period of time.

I did like the HTC 10, but I ultimately went back to the S7. My HTC camera was fine, but I just really find that I get the best pictures with the S7. I want the best all around package in a phone. I'm on it a lot. For me it's the S7. I do think this is by far the best HTC phone to come out in a LONG time, though.

Taste is taste...there shouldn't be anybody here discussing it. This is clearly a matter of taste...very subjective...some will prefer overprocessed and oversaturated pictures others a more natural look (like me). I ain't racist with any brand (maybe...with Apple I'm a bit racist :-) ) but being on my 5th generation HTC (I started with the Blue Angel...getting old) they have never let me down...specially in quality of construction. Looking at a 3 year old HTC and a 3 year old Sammsung, HTC always came out on top as looking better and way less scratched.

Stick with your 6P. S7 really isn't any better. I tried the S7 Edge and 7 and already had my 6P. Compared both cameras and 9 out of 10 times you couldn't tell which phone took the pic. Returned both of them for many many reasons…including the camera.

6P is still the best phone out there including a very solid camera. That's right…you heard it here...
