Getting Root and Copy of Stock

Please PM me an email address where I can send you the /system files (together with the APKs I pulled from /system); not posting that here (due to fact that ATT might take a proprietary attitude toward this Android system - see response from CS I got re: request for LG Thrive source, found in other thread). Thanks.

Do you still have these files?

I used gingerbreak method to root the phone. The .apk will not load on a factory phone for obvious reasons. So used gingerbreak manual method to root. After root used the custom recovery meant for P500, by thunderg [HOWTO] Rooting, Installing - Android SDK, Custom Recovery, Custom ROM's - xda-developers
Although it worked well, the display is messed up. I loaded a custom ROM meant for P500 on my Thrive, and the messy display did not recover. And the model on the 'About phone' says LG P500. Fortunately I had a NAND backup, so restored the Stock ROM back. Now I have a custom recovery which works but has a messy display and I have root. Waiting for a good custom ROM :(

I tried some CyanogenMod and thunderg rom as well. I get the messed up display too with black and blue colors, though performance is great!. If only could get the display to work normally. Currently am back at stock rom for LG P506 Thrive.

I keep thinking if there was a file that be extracted or replaced in the modded rom from the stock rom for the display settings or drivers. Just which file is it is the question o.o

hey hal-samti...can you please give me the stock ROM. I think I have bricked my phone trying to mix and match boot.img of p506 with system.img of p500. basically its stuck in fatsboot udc_start() black screen. Doesnt even enter recovery. So I might have o use KDZ and flash the stock rom, for which I will need the V11e_00.kdz file. I am not able to find it anywhere on the net. Any help from you or dinlaca?

Why were you trying to switch the boot and system img? I'm in the process of finding a backup of the rom i made for (rom manager).

Btw: Based on my findings, changing the kernel on the stock rom without installing any rom will give the blue and black screen problem.

Observations:
1. Blue / Black screen color problem due to kernel, not rom
2. How to install custom roms without these modified kernels?

Thanks hal. I really need that kdz file so i can make this phone functional. I am eagerly waiting for you to give me that file. Btw i saw the blue black green screen even in my recovery screen. I used p500 custom reecovery. Does custom recovery update kernel tpo. If so how come when i restored my nand bacup of the stock rom the colors were fine.

Depends on the rom if it has a updated kernel in it. The stock rom is stock kernal. I have yet to figure out how to make a kdz file.

Can anyone help me. I tried all possible routes to unbrick my phone. It keeps getting wosre and worse. Right now its stuck in "Emergency Mode". I have the NAND backup file with system.img and boot.img, but cant do anything with it since no ADP or customer recovery. I tried to do a KDZ update, but I think i need the v11e_00.kdz file for P506. Can anyone give me some pointers to recver my phone.

That's crazy, i only used the clockwork recovery for all the rom testing for me. I never bothered or knew how to use the other recovery things :P, know if you were using the clockworks recovery, i could of helped you there but i don't have any kdz files. I'm sorry :(

hey im using clockworkmod, if anyone has the stock rom, i'll gladly pm you. i foolishely backed up the rom after rooting it. i know. dum move. lol. but a fix would be great. can't factory reset as the privacy page in the settings menu force closes and so does any google app. installigs gapps doesn't help.

Hi DroidXcon,

I can confirm that Super Manager does work with the LG Thrive Rooted. I have been able to move and delete apps from the System/apps directory.

How did you back up the stock ROM? I want to keep a copy just in case I decide to flash the ROM.

I have the same issue as many, I really really need the stock rom files, ended up doing things in the wrong order, and have a backed up image that has root and clockworkmod installed - and I'm in some sort of boot loop where only clockwork mod will boot on my phone.

I was trying to backup the rom with cwm. Apparently that was a bad move, because it's exactly what bricked my phone. Can anyone help me with this?

well i am going to try and put this politely. you all need to actually look around before you post redundant threads. FYI i am running 2.3.7 with no color issues do to a custom kernel that has been around for over a month. ive flashed 4 diff roms on my phoenix sense kernel release.
this thread is quite aggravating, more so that a senior member was involved, all the info talked about here as already been discussed. ADB is not needed to root this phone. rooting thread already exists. fastboot started fix thread with emergency mode already exists. CWM has already been discussed.

this thread was not here last night so some one moved it here. that person is not very bright.
if he/she was wise enough to move it here then they should have been smart enough to tell you that there are existing threads about your issues.

this thread should be deleted or moved back to were it came from as there is better info in other threads, and threads already exist for these issues.

New to smart phones - need some guidance

I'm new to smart phones and would like to start out simple. I'd like some help (simple steps) backing up the phone before rooting and how to reinstall in case I do something wrong. I'd also like some help on how to remove some of the pre-loaded programs. Other than those two things, I can't think of anything that I'd like to do at this point. I have a solid/descent background in computers (PC/MAC) but I'm in the crawling stage in this area - I hope that someone will walk me through the process.

Note...I downloaded Gingerbreak 1.2, was able to root the phone and get Superuser access. Since I didn't have a clue about how to back-up the OEM system and/or get started with anything, I did an unroot.

Thanks ahead of time for any help - it will be greatly appreciated.
